The Dane County Department of Human Services is recruiting for a full-time (1.0 FTE) Clerk I-II (Bilingual - Hmong) position.

Employees who work in bilingual designated positions receive an additional $2.00 per hour (not reflected above).


The Eligibility List created may be used for future Clerk I-II (Bilingual - Hmong) vacancies over the next six (6) months.

Education, Experience & Special Requirements:


Education, Training and Experience:

Any combination of education, training and experience equivalent to six (6) months of clerical experience.


Special Requirements:

Individuals who meet the minimum qualifications must also pass Microsoft Word, Excel & Language tests with 50% accuracy.


For Bilingual Positions:


  • Provide services in both English and the required foreign language (e.g., Spanish, Hmong, etc.), including oral interpretation and written translations in that language.
  • Applicants being considered for Bilingual positions will be tested during the interview stage of the hiring process. This may consist of either being able to respond to questions in that language (e.g., Spanish, Hmong, etc.) during the interview; or passing an oral translation (English to foreign language / foreign language to English) exam prior to employment.

Background Check Statement:

Some positions may require a criminal background check which can include fingerprinting due to the nature of the job's responsibilities.

Wisconsin's Fair Employment Law, s , Wis. Stats., prohibits discrimination because of an arrest or conviction record.

However, Dane County may disqualify an applicant if the position's responsibilities are substantially related to the applicant's criminal history (e.g., the nature of the crime and its relationship to the position, whether hiring, transferring or promoting an applicant would pose an unreasonable risk to the business, its employees, customers and vendors, etc.).

Management reserves the right to make employment contingent upon successful completion of the background check.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Incumbents must have knowledge of modern office procedures and practices; computers and data entry formats and processing.

This includes standard business formats and sufficient knowledge to set up documents and process a variety of narrative, numerical or graphic information and compose forms and form letters and other routine correspondence; record keeping systems sufficient to maintain clerical records and to prepare routine reports; departmental policy and regulations sufficient to answer routine questions; business English, spelling and grammar sufficient to edit materials and correct typographical errors.

Incumbents must have the skill to spell correctly; use grammar properly; effective oral and written communication skills; write memorandum, reports and business letters; make arithmetic calculations with speed and accuracy and key in data on a computer with reasonable speed and accuracy using basic mathematics and/or formulas; sort and file material using an established indexing/computer systems.

Must have ability to set up and type a variety of accounting, statistical and financial statements, letters and reports; compute and tabulate data; operate standard office machines; ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with the public; ability to type neatly and accurately.
