Job Purpose and Responsibility:


The Family Engagement Specialist position provides support to schools by implementing policies and coordinating programs to enhance the capacity for parental/family involvement/engagement as well as support in schools by working to establish communication and relationships and maintain mutual understanding by connecting school, home, and community.


The role of The Family Support Specialist is to design and implement family engagement programs that create partnerships among school, parents/families, and access community resources to increase student achievement and support the school?s priorities.

This includes building capacity for parent leadership, working with community groups to engage and support parents and identifying resources for parents and families.


Qualifications:


  • A minimum of two years of college. Four-year degree and bilingual in Spanish/English is preferred. Must have a minimum of two (2) years of experience in education, social services, adult education, community organizations or related fields.
  • Valid Texas Driver License and proof of liability insurance
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work with multiple levels of supervision within CIS and the school.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Data Management systems
  • Experience working with youth, preferably in a school setting.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to meet short and long-term deadlines.

Essential Functions of Position:


  • Collaboration with CIS site coordinator at school sites to coordinate service delivery.
  • Conferring with CIS site coordinator - monthly progress reports, consultations, and case staffing.
  • Assist the principal and other campus staff with identifying effective strategies for increasing parent and family engagement participation. Be a member of campus studentsupport team.
  • Attend necessary family engagement specialist staff development trainings.
  • Create opportunities for parents/families of children served to be engaged in the education of their child.
  • Develop and maintain a Family Welcome Center, library or corner with relevant material and resources for parents/families to utilize at home with their child.
  • Document all Family and Community engagement activities via CIS-NAV.
  • Assist parents/families in understanding how to monitor a childs progress and work
with educators to improve the achievement of their child.

  • Coordinate academic-based learning opportunities/workshops for parents at flexible
times to build parent?s capacity to work with their child at home.

  • Develop jointly, with parents of all children served, school staff and the community, a
school-parent compact and school-level parental involvement policy that outlines how
families, the entire school staff and students will share the responsibility for improved academic achievement.

  • Assist in the explanation of school goals and objectives to families and the community.
  • Conduct an annual parent survey to assess the needs of the parents and the community.
  • Administer evaluation instrument at the end of the workshop series and document responses.
  • Provide an exceptional customer experience for all stakeholders with intentional and professional practices that promote a culture of respect and focus on achieving equitable outcomes.
  • Participate in evening and weekend events that involve parents and the community.
  • Conduct an annual parent survey to assess the needs of the parents and the community.
  • Conduct, with the involvement of parents/families, an annual evaluation of the content and effectiveness of parental involvement/engagement policy as well as the compact in improving the academic quality of the school.
  • Attend required national training
