Executive Director, Business Development & Licensing Transactions

Position Summary

Key Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate leadership and business acumen while collaborating closely with internal Search & Evaluation (S&E), Enterprise Strategy, R&D, Finance, and Commercial stakeholders and potential external partners.
  • Lead or support deal teams to evaluate, negotiate, and execute various types of BD transactions in various therapeutic areas and geographies.
  • Support formulation of corporate and therapeutic area strategies when needed while driving the execution of external business development elements.
  • Colead, with the senior S&E team and the therapeutic area leads, the development of business case assessments and recommendations of external opportunities, including deal proposals, valuation, deal status, and key issues of the transaction to BMS governance bodies for endorsement.
  • Recommend and develop proposed deal structure and terms, utilizing an indepth knowledge of the industry deal making trends.
  • Efficiently lead crossfunctional team meetings and communicate updates when needed to internal leadership and external stakeholders.
  • Lead or coach team members to negotiate deals, find solutions to bridge gap when needed, communicate key deal issues, risks, and updates to leadership and senior internal stakeholders, review and provide comments to term sheets and contracts drafted by the Legal team to make sure term sheets and contracts reflect business intent.
Qualifications & Experience

  • MBA, JD, or other advanced degree in the biomedical field preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years of biopharma experience and minimum of 7 years of relevant business development transactions experience in leading significant numbers of closed deals (deal sheet required).
  • Strong knowledge of pharmaceutical industry issues, trends, and their business impact.
  • Deep understanding of the research, drug development, regulatory approval, and commercialization process.
  • Ability to integrate scientific knowledge into business model and analyze sales forecasts, P&Ls, risk assessment, and asset valuations.
  • Strong understanding of discounted cash flow, net present value, internal rates of return, and other financial evaluation techniques.
  • Proven ability to lead team members on manage multiple projects efficiently with a high degree of independence.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and leadership skills with demonstrated ability to synthesize and communicate highlevel insights effectively to senior management internally and externally.
  • Deep expertise in reviewing and editing contracts and providing direction to Legal in term sheets and contracts and demonstrated strong negotiation skills.
  • Proven ability to work well with and exert influence on multidisciplinary teams, including facilitating candid dialogue and crossfunctional collaboration to find solutions and gain alignment.
  • Proven ability to consistently deliver on commitments in a timely manner.
