How you make a difference:


The Mental Health Technician (MHT) provides direct care to the hospital's patient population under the direction and supervision of licensed nursing staff.

The MHT functions as an active part of the treatment team, providing care to patients in a manner that promotes safety, comfort, and the therapeutic environment, while role modeling for the patients.

MHTs provide supervision in a treatment milieu; assists in the maintenance of a safe, secure environment that enhances treatment effectiveness, and is able to intervene effectively in crisis situations.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Provide patient care and assist with activities of daily living while maintaining safety and security of the facility.
  • Anticipate and respond to escalating behaviors, utilizing deescalation techniques and displaying neutral emotions as needed.
  • Work collaboratively with other members of the multidisciplinary team to implement patient treatment programs and promote development of daily living skills.
  • Complete required documentation, including patient observations and vital signs, while maintaining confidentiality of patient records.
  • Continuously maintain professional development through inservice education, workshops, conferences, and selfstudy.

Qualifications & Requirements:

Education

  • High School diploma of GED required.
  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field preferred.
Experience

  • One (1) year direct care experience in a mental health setting preferred.
Licenses/Certifications

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain CPR and CPI certification.
