    Psychiatrist - Lake Burien Transitional Care Facility

    Be a part of something new The Lake Burien Transitional Care Facility is being stood up by Washington state's Department of Social and Health Services, the Department of Children, Youth and Families, Health Care Authority with generous support from MultiCare and Seattle Children's Hospital. The Psychiatrist reports to the Executive Medical Officer (EMO) of the Lake Burien Care Facility. You will be responsible for assessing, diagnosing, and providing treatment and planning of treatments to youth with complex needs in a transitional care setting. Prescribe medication within licensing authority, monitor appropriate lab work, work closely with the interdisciplinary team, provide emergency psychiatric treatment, and review treatment plans, clerical records, and admission and discharges for quality and adherence to transitional care treatment facility policy. The property was designed with children and youth in mind and features accessible spaces for onsite educational services and therapies, as well as access to outdoor space. The voluntary facility will initially serve 12 youth. This new therapeutic facility is slated to open in July to help youth, age 13 and older, with co-occurring intellectual and developmental disabilities who have complex needs such as mental illness or substance use disorder. Some of what you will do:
    • Provide leadership to treatment team and for youth served at the facility.
    • Perform timely documented adequate psychiatric care to include comprehensive diagnostic assessment of the youth based upon clinical presentation and record review of available history as well as a synthesis of the assessments of other disciplines/consultation documentation to formulate treatment and discharge/aftercare plans, develop appropriate medication and active treatment options in a rehabilitation-based model.
    • Certify medical necessity of facility of care.
    • Participate as directed in medical staff peer review, committee and other medical staff assign duties. Participate in quality management assignments.
    • Perform clinical observations of youth and staff.
    • Examine and evaluate youth for admission or discharge.
    • Prepare reports and correspondence on treatment plan programs, RTF policy, and youth progress.
    • Make recommendations in the management of psychiatric conditions/concerns.
    • Support members of the interdisciplinary team in understanding and assessing psychiatric needs of youth.
    • Provide counsel to families, guardians, youth, and potential future supports around psychiatric care needs.
    • Participate in onboarding and training of facility staff.
    • Participate as directed in medical staff peer review, committee, and other medical staff assigned duties.
    We are most interested in applicants who meet the following:
    • Valid license to practice medicine and surgery in State of Washington;

    AND

    • Eligibility for certification by American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology
    Additional Skills and Experience we seek include:
    • Experience working with youth who have complex psychosocial, psychiatric, and developmental needs, including a lack of verbal communication skills and other neurodevelopmental concerns, such as deafness, immobility, and genetic syndromes.
    • Graduation from a Child and Adolescent Psychiatry fellowship with Board Certification preferred.
    • Demonstrated understanding of the therapeutic modalities (such as ABA) used with individuals diagnosed with intellectual disabilities, autism spectrum disorder, and other associated neurodevelopmental disorders.
    • Experience working collaboratively with other specialists, state systems, families, and proxy decision makers.
    • In-depth working knowledge of group behavior and dynamics.
    • Experience in intervening and de-escalating crisis/dangerous situations.
    • Knowledge of all hospital, state and deferral regulatory standards, policies, and procedures.
    • Knowledge of mental illness and recovery principles.
    • Demonstrates the principles of universal precautions and infection control practices.
    • Ability to work with difficult or angry patients in a therapeutic, non-threatening manner.
    • Ability to work as a team member and to resolve personal conflicts in a calm, non-threatening manner
