Overview:

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) plays a key role in various hospital units and departments, including the Float/Flex Pool PCT. Working under the supervision of healthcare professionals, the PCT assists with patient care, documentation, and supply management, ensuring the unit is well-equipped, clean, and organized. In addition to these duties, the PCT may also take on office assistant responsibilities, such as answering calls and providing information to patients and their support network.

In the discharge unit, the PCT supports discharged patients, coordinates discharge logistics, and helps patients access necessary resources and health services. However, in the Labor Delivery and Post Partum Breastfeeding Center, direct patient care is not provided.

The PCT adheres to all Northern Arizona Healthcare policies and procedures, performing tasks within their scope of practice and collaborating with the interdisciplinary team to deliver quality care to patients across different age groups.

The Float/Flex Pool PCT is flexible and may be required to work in various hospital units based on demand. This position may also involve working as a Patient Safety Attendant when needed.

Responsibilities:

  • Patient Care
    • Maintains department cleanliness and follows cleanup procedures.
    • Assists with patient transfers and mobility exercises.
    • Observes and reports any issues with patient skin integrity.
    • Helps with catheter and IV removal within their practice scope.
    • Prioritizes patient needs and collaborates with healthcare professionals.
    • Assists with dressing changes and activities of daily living.
    • Follows safety guidelines for infection control and bloodborne pathogens.
  • Discharge PCT
    • Assists patients with vehicle transfers and reinforces discharge instructions.
    • Collaborates with the team and community agencies for patient support.
    • Uses EMR for documentation and assists with securing DME.
  • Labor Delivery Post Partum Breastfeeding Center
    • Manages breast pump rental program and billing processes.
    • Coordinates with suppliers and maintains equipment cleanliness.
    • Handles telephone triage for breastfeeding inquiries.
  • Administrative
    • Manages incoming calls, supports new staff orientation, and maintains unit documents.
    • Assists with clerical duties and ensures accurate patient data documentation.
  • Education
    • Demonstrates knowledge of care standards and policies.
    • Engages in professional development and maintains quality care practices.
