Smyth Industries Electrical Division is currently searching for an individual with Water Infrastructure Industry experience as an
Electrical Control Panel Builder to help enhance our current team.

We provide full-service electrical, civil, manufacturing, engineering and general contracting services for the water and reclamation industry.

In your job, you will have the ability to make a difference in the water and reclamation industry by:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Experience in building control cabinets.
  • With a high level of attention to detail complete layout/building of high/low voltage and control components and circuitry.
  • Dimension and layout of back panels and enclosures.
  • Routing and bundling of wire and cables neatly to meet wiring standards.
  • Point to point wiring of relays, controls, interfaces, and instrumentation.
  • Install components, units, subassemblies, wiring, or assembly casings, using rivets, bolts, soldering or other power tooltype equipment.
  • Communicate effectively with all team members, builders, installers, client representatives, engineers, and project managers.
  • Meet deadlines under pressure.
  • Calculate electrical loads, specifications, requirements.
  • Coordinate purchasing of electrical parts.
  • Create bill of materials for control cabinets.
  • Complete project builds/implementation of control cabinets and equipment.
  • Testing of control cabinets and associated equipment.
  • Customer support of existing equipment, troubleshooting, upgrades, etc.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or as needed.
  • Perform field installation of control cabinets including terminating field wiring when needed.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with client's representative to provide field commissioning of panels.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 1 year of experience building electrical control panels/electrical experience.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematic drawings, diagrams, blueprints, specifications, work orders, or reports to determine materials requirements or assembly instructions.
  • Skilled in the use of measuring, diagnostic, and hand tools.
  • Knowledgeable in NEC (National Electrical Code) UL Listings
  • Proficient in Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT)
  • Knowledgeable using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Teams, etc.)
  • Selfmotivated, taskoriented, leader
  • Required to possess a valid driver's license and legally be able to operate a company vehicle.
  • Required to pass a preemployment drug screening.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA regulations
  • Must be able to physically perform all required duties which may include bending, lifting 50pound objects, carrying 50pound items, squatting, climbing ladders, working in confined spaces, working outdoors most of the time, or standing for prolonged periods of time.
  • Required to wear company supplied Personal Protective Equipment.
  • The applicant should be comfortable working around industrial equipment.
  • Knowledgeable reading and connecting field wiring using ladder drawings.
  • Knowledgeable using HART loop calibration and process meter simulation.
  • Knowledgeable in troubleshooting with DMM, frequency generator, phase rotation meters, Megger, etc. equipment.

Preferred Qualifications:


  • 2+ years of experience building electrical control panels/electrical experience.
  • UL 508A Certification: Industrial Control Panels.
  • Strong knowledge in water reclamation and/or construction.
  • Spanish speaking is a plus.
