Description
The Division of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH), better known as Cal/OSHA, resides in the DIR.

Cal/OSHA protects and improves the health and safety of working people in California and the safety of passengers riding on elevators, amusement rides, and tramways by setting and enforcing standards; providing outreach, education, and assistance, and issuing permits, licenses, certifications, registrations, and approvals.

  • The Bureau of Investigations is a unit within Cal/OSHA. The Bureau investigates violations of standards, orders, or special orders in which there has been a fatality or a serious injury or illness. The Bureau also directs investigations when DOSH's civil compliance staff makes a request for prosecution. For any case in which the Bureau is required to conduct an investigation and in which serious injury or death has occurred, the Bureau refers the results of the investigation to the appropriate prosecuting authority with jurisdiction over appropriate action, unless the evidence of a violation of the law is insufficient.
  • Come to a place that values integrity, professional development, and a team atmosphere. Cal/OSHA's Bureau of Investigations is looking for a talented, independent, and creative individual to serve as a Chief Investigator. The incumbent will manage a statewide unit of special investigators who independently conduct sensitive, complex criminal field investigations of industrial homicides for referral to local prosecuting authorities. The Chief Investigator will ensure accountability and oversight of all BOI investigation reports and review and provide guidance on all cases considered for referral to prosecutors. The Chief Investigator will serve as the primary liaison with Cal/OSHA enforcement managers and legal unit leadership, identifying opportunities for cross training and coordinating the most sensitive, complex cases. The incumbent leads the development of internal training, policies and procedures and the preparation of BOIwide administrative directives.
Per CCR 249.3, this job control may be used to fill subsequent vacancies.

You will find additional information about the job in the
Duty Statement.
