Requirements / Qualifications

THE POSITION:

The Program Manager is responsible for implementing all aspects of Career programming for high school graduates in Alameda County juvenile detention facilities.

Based out of the juvenile justice facilities in San Leandro, this position will facilitate career exploration modules, enabling students to explore a variety of career possibilities.

The Program Manager will also assist students in identifying areas of concentration and develop programs to help students achieve industry-recognized certifications in those fields.

The Program Manager will establish and grow connections with employers and community colleges to strengthen job opportunities for students. This job reports to the assigned administrator.

Manages and evaluates community college instructors and tutors in Career Lab.

Supervises and advises students during Career Lab time (90-minute blocks with activities like Health Science Career Exploration, Construction Career Exploration, Virtual Reality Career Exploration).

Arranges virtual and in-person guest speakers in fields of interest for students.
Leads the coordination on site of job fairs.

Conducts frequent 1:1 meetings with students to identify and cultivate interests and passions that can lead to effective career choices.

Creates vocational plans in partnership with students and other Program Facilitators. Chooses and coordinates course offerings with CTE community college partner. Assists students in the creation and maintenance of work portfolios and resumes. Creates and maintains partnerships with off campus job placements. Coordinates off-campus job placement, when applicable. Monitors and reports students' progress in fulfilling their vocational plans.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's Degree or industry certification (required).
Total of eight (8) years experience in one or more high-demand industry field/s (required).
One (1) year teaching/mentoring experience in industry field of expertise (required).
Three (3) years working with youth up to age 25 (preferred).
Equivalent combination of education and experience
