Job Summary


Responsible for the Respiratory care clinical leadership and management of the selected service lines, including program development, performance improvement activities, clinical quality monitoring and ensuring positive physician relationships; position responsible for recommending therapeutic and diagnostic procedures for patients with respiratory disorders, including patients in adult and/or pediatric/neonatal critical care units; functions as a resource to staff and is actively involved in department operations.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:
Graduate of an accredited School of Respiratory Care, required; Bachelor's degree preferred.


Licenses/Certifications:


  • Current State of Texas RCP license
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist
  • Certified in Basic Life Support
  • Additional specialty certification from the NBRC, preferred

Experience / Knowledge / Skills:


  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience with five (5) years of critical care experience.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.

PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILTIES:


  • Responsible for supervising the daily operations and staff of the Respiratory Care department.
  • Provides leadership in the absence of the department director or manager.
  • Ensures flow of communication between staff and department leadership.
  • Assists with maintaining department supplies and equipment.
  • Assists with preparing the department schedule and ensures appropriate staffing.
  • Prepares and distributes shift assignments.
  • Monitors staff performance and assist with redirection and education.
  • Mentors/leads/trains lesser experienced practitioners.
  • Assists in developing, implementing, and managing new programs/policies. Refines existing programs/policies to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
  • Monitors and manages the clinical quality for selected services, identifies areas for improvement and implements solutions.
  • Provides expert respiratory advice and recommendations to physicians and other staff for populations served.
  • Performs duties in a manner to promote quality, patient care and customer service, while promoting patient safety and cost efficiency. Performs Respiratory Care quality assurance problemsolving and takes appropriate action.
  • Executes new product and equipment evaluation process; participates in the evaluation of new equipment.
  • Communicates effectively with professional colleagues; manages time effectively; documents appropriately in the electronic medical record and completes all required documentation accurately.
  • Considers the diverse needs of each patient through the entire continuum of care, providing and ensuring the highest level of service according to established service standards, optimizing the patient experience.
  • Ensures safe care to patients, staff and visitors; adheres to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications including time management, supply management, productivity and quality of service.
  • Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency; supports departmentbased goals which contribute to the success of the organization; serves as preceptor, mentor and resource to less experienced staff.
