Job Overview:

The Billing Specialist is responsible for billing the department.

They will work in conjunction with leadership, physicians and patients in estimating costs of proposed treatment and in arranging payment options that are mutually acceptable to the patient and the financial viability of the department.

They will verify accurate procedure and encounter numbers in appropriate systems and make necessary corrections for all patients. They will review daily and monthly reports and statistics.

They will generate and process account adjustments, refund allowances, and change of financial class so that bills can be generated and collected in an agreed upon time-frame.

Qualifications:

Required:_
High School diploma
Knowledge of computer systems and Microsoft Office
Knowledge of medical terminology
Preferred:_
Associates degree
Prior hospital billing experience strongly preferred
Operating room billing experience is a plus

Scheduling Requirements:

Day Shift
Full-Time

Essential Functions:

Obtains and verifies insurance/payment source, seeks necessary referral/authorization and coverage extensions as required, and assists with identification/resolution of insurance issues
Assists with physician billing by providing demographic and insurance information, inputting data to billing company software and resolving related billing edits. Conducts receipts, encounter forms and/or payment logs and to ensure full accounting for monetary transactions conducted during daily business
Completes data collection and statistics as directed Other duties as assigned
