    Description
    Position Title: MEDICAL OFFICE NURSE

    Reports to:Practice Supervisor

    General Summary: Responsible for providing professional nursing care for clinic patients following established standards and practices. Assists providers in coordinating patient care with surgical procedure and scheduling these procedures. Functions as primary liaison between patients, providers and hospital departments for surgical procedures in the hospital as well as in the office setting on an as need basis.

    Essential Job Functions*:
    • Provide professional nursing services to patients utilizing all components of the nursing process (assesses, develops, plans, implements and evaluates) in the plan of care. Assists providers with examinations, procedures, tests, and treatments, as needed.
    • Coordinates surgeries with providers and scheduler. Educate/instruct patients.
    • Triage/assess/schedule - results and/or patient call backs i.e.: results, instructions, verify conditions.
    • Order appropriate studies when directed by the provider and instructs patients on what to expect during their diagnostic study appointment.
    • Calls specialists to expedite appointments when appropriate, and requested by providers.
    • Assure quality controls preformed as indicated.
    • Assists with medication, prior authorizations for medication, review determine eligibility, assist/consult with PT assistance program at SMH.
    • Maintains inventory of medical supplies and orders supplies as needed.
    • Performs blood pressure checks, routine vital signs
    • Refers patients to appropriate specialists as directed by provider
    • Assists provider with minor office procedures and exams including but not limited to suture/staple removal, bandage changes, and other surgical assisting as needed. Follows OSHA guidelines with label, transport and disposal of all laboratory specimens.
    • Prepares electronic chart, collects all ER and radiology notes for provider prior to patient's arrival when applicable. Obtain and notify provider of all hospital consults, referrals, specialist notes, lab/diagnostic study results, progress notes, etc.
    • Daily filing of charts/paperwork as needed [scanning, batch setting].
    • Communicate all changes, staff/patient problems/concerns to Supervisor.
    • Stock and update necessary forms for providers
    • Complete referral letters and send to appropriate providers.
    • Cancels and/or reschedules appointments as necessary.
    • Assist with training of clinical staff, assigns roles and responsibilities.
    • Performs other tasks as assigned by provider or supervisor.
    • Complies with hospital and departmental policies, procedures, regulations and standards as related to job.
    • Demonstrates hospital's stated mission and values of teamwork, respect and communication with co-workers, patients, families and visitors.
    • Actively and appropriately participates in problem-solving identification and resolution, both intra- and inter-departmentally.
    • Meets department customer service standards and strives to enhance the level of customer service provided.
    Qualifications:
    • Education
    Required: High School Diploma or GED

    NH State licensed LPN/RN
    • Work Experience
    Required: Medical office experience.
    • Licensure/Certifications/Registrations
    Required: LPN/RN License in the State of NH
    • Other Skills/Knowledge
    Required: Computer, customer services, critical thinking.

    Preferred: Knowledge of medical billing and EMR experience.
