Description

Basic Purpose of Position:

The primary purpose is to perform the day to day activities of the housekeeping department in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines and regulations governing the facility, and to assure that the facility is maintained in a clean, safe, and comfortable manner.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Demonstrates Competency in the Following Areas:

  • Performs day to day housekeeping functions.
  • Performs specific tasks in accordance with daily work assignments and established housekeeping procedures.
  • Assures that assigned work areas are maintained in a clean, safe, comfortable, and attractive manner.
  • Follows established safety precautions when performing tasks and using equipment and supplies.
  • Follows established infection control practices are maintained when performing housekeeping tasks.
  • Clean/polish furnishings, fixtures, ledges, heaters/vents, etc. in resident rooms and recreational areas daily as instructed.
  • Clean, wash, sanitize and/or polish bathroom fixtures.
  • Clean windows/mirrors in resident rooms, recreational rooms, bathrooms, and entrance/exit ways.
  • Clean floors, including sweeping, dusting, damp/wet mopping, and disinfecting.
  • Vacuuming carpets and rugs as assigned.
  • Clean walls and ceilings by washing, wiping, dusting, spot cleaning, disinfecting, deodorizing etc.
  • Remove dirt, dust, grease, film, etc., from surfaces using proper cleaning/disinfectant solutions.
  • Cleans hallways including handrails, pictures and windows.
  • Discards waster/trash into proper containers and relines trash receptacles with plastic liners.
  • Reports all hazardous conditions or equipment to supervisor.
  • Understands and follows established facility Infection Control Policy and Procedure.
  • Properly disposes of Hazardous Waste properly.
  • Properly cleans room(s) or other isolation areas as in the Housekeeping Policy and Procedure.
  • Assures that work/assignment areas are clean and the equipment, tools, supplies, etc., are properly stored at all times, including leaving such areas for breaks, mealtimes, and end of the day.
  • Assures that an adequate inventory of housekeeping supplies is maintained for nursing staff use.
  • Informs supervisor of any faulty equipment in resident rooms and common areas.
  • Performs terminal cleaning procedures as instructed when resident is discharged and/or transferred.
  • Assures that work/cleaning schedules and followed as closely as practical.
  • Follows established fire safety policies and procedures.
  • Assists others with lifting and/or moving heavy equipment, supplies etc., as directed or requested.
  • Reports all accidents/incidents to supervisor.
  • Maintains confidentiality of resident care information.
  • Honor the resident's personal and private property rights.
  • Cleans work/supply carts, equipment etc., as necessary/directed.
  • Turns in all found articles to the supervisor.
  • Attends departmental and staff meetings.
  • Keeps work/assignment areas free of hazardous objects, such as protruding mop/broom handles, necessary equipment, supplies, etc.
  • Attends and participates in in-service educational classes and on the job training programs.

Qualifications:


  • High school diploma or GED
  • A positive attitude and a willingness to learn
  • A desire to help people and work with a team to make it happen
