Group Leader - Beacon Program

Reports to:
Beacon Program Director and Assistant Director


Work Location: 101 Park Ave Brooklyn, NY 11205

Hours:

hours per week - incumbents expected to work between 15 and 25 hours per week depending on program needs.

Must be able to work Weekday/Afternoon/Evening and Saturday Shifts


This position is fully in-person and does not offer any remote work.

Salary Range:
$25.00 to - $25.00 per hour


Position Summary
Brooklyn Community Services is one of Brooklyn's first and largest non-sectarian social services agencies.

BCS, which presently serves more than 10,000 individuals annually, is committed to a broad and diverse range of services including education and child care; services to strengthen families; and services to foster self-sufficiency for adults.

Beacon Community Centers provide academic and recreational opportunities to children, teens, and adults.

The Beacon program is offered every weekday from 2:00pm to 9:00pm, 10:00am - 6:00pm on weekends, and extended hours during the summer and school holidays.


Responsibilities:


  • Work with Site Director and Assistant Director/Onsite Supervisor to provide enriching activities for children, youth and adults during program hours.
  • Assist with after school activities; help implement handson multisensory lessons and activities to children which are provided in the context of academically stimulating themes.
  • Help train staff on lesson plans, activity facilitation, behavior management and professionalism.
  • Provide effective supervision to groups of children during classroom activities, snack time, recreation and field trips.
  • Responsible for taking and collecting daily attendance.
  • Assist with developing and planning community events for children, parents and community as needed.
  • Oversee and monitor authorized parental/guardian pick up of children.
  • Supervises Activity Specialist and reinforce staff expectations
  • Collect, review, and approve lesson plans.
  • Assist specialist with group management and minor behavioral problems.
  • Fills in for Activity Specialist if needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications Required:


  • Some college education required; Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Must enjoy working with children and be able to pass a background check
  • Reliable and able to work as a team member.
  • Background in sports, music, drama, dance, photography, crafts, sewing, or the arts is a plus.
