    Description

    We are seeking a dynamic and energetic Director of Athletics who will be responsible for the successful leadership, supervision, development, and implementation of the Athletics program at Pilgrim School. The Director of Athletics will work closely with the Director of Secondary School to ensure the smooth day to day operations and the long-term strategic success of the Athletics program. This is an excellent opportunity for a strong candidate to build on an already strong program in a small school environment. The ideal candidate is a relational leader who demonstrates a strong work ethic and sense of teamwork and collaboration. This is an 11 month position who serves on the Secondary School Leadership Team.

    Core Duties and Responsibilities

    • Be an integral leader in the Secondary School and fully participate in the daily community life of the school
    • Ensure the health, safety, and wellness of all students at Pilgrim School.
    • Teach 1-2 Physical Literacy classes as assigned by the Director of Secondary School and/or coach/assistant coach athletics teams.
    • Ensure the alignment of the Athletics program with our Purpose, core values, and strategic anchors.
    • Demonstrate and model high professional standards and promote sportsmanship among our student-athletes.
    • Develop excitement for and participation in Pilgrim Athletics from the student body and parents.
    • Speak publicly on behalf of the Secondary School at admissions and other parent events, and participate in interviews and plan other activities for prospective students and parents.
    • Act as the league representative for Pilgrim School at all league meetings for elementary school, middle school, and high school athletic teams.
    • Work with league coordinators, and with other schools, to create and administer the competition schedule for all athletic teams.
    • Work with the Director of Secondary School to fill coaching positions with experienced coaches
    • Ensure that all team coaches are performing their duties at a high level, and regularly evaluate coaches for performance and support of student athletes. Communicate evaluations to the appropriate division director.
    • Work collaboratively with the Director of Secondary School to ensure that team practices and competition schedules are in line with the academic schedule and program calendar, as well as with broader student life goals.
    • Coordinate the logistics of athletics practices and competitions including transportation, calendar management, communication (both internal and external), referee fees, etc.
    • Ensure that all athletics teams have the necessary equipment and uniforms.
    • Coordinate game management to ensure that the Director of Athletics or designated representative is in attendance at every home athletics event.
    • Work closely with the Director of Marketing and Communication to communicate records and team accomplishments, develop promotional materials, and ensure our website well represents the athletics program.
    • Work with the Chief Operating Office and Director of Secondary School in developing and monitoring the annual budget for athletics.
    • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Secondary School. Position Requirements
      • Master's degree or higher in a relevant field is strongly preferred. Bachelor's degree is required.
      • Minimum of 5 years of coaching and administrative experience in a K-12 setting.
      • Deep understanding of the unique developmental needs of middle and high school student-athletes.
      • Demonstrated planning, scheduling, and organizational skills, with high attention to detail
      • Knowledge and understanding of the complexity of systems, especially within schools, and the ability to design for and within systems to maximize success towards intended outcomes.
      • Excellent managerial skills and ability to collaborate within and among multiple teams
      • Superior skills in communication and technology, including outstanding writing and public speaking skills.
