  • The Providence Public School District (PPSD) serves approximately 22,000 students (about the seating capacity of Madison Square Garden) attending our 37 schools. PPSD employs more than 3,200 professionals who work in and provide support to our schools, which include 20 elementary schools, 7 middle schools, 11 high schools, and 2 public district charter schools. Of our employees, about 2,000 are educators, and over 600 others directly support our schools' students and families.
Our schools are diverse learning communities. Approximately 68% of our students are Latinx, 15% Black, 7% White, 4% Asian, 5.5% Multi-racial and 1% Native American. Approximately 40% of students are multilingual, and about 16% receive special education services. Approximately 55% of students come from homes where English is not the primary language spoken. Our students and families speak more than 55 languages and hail from 91 countries of origin.

As the Supervisor of Project Based Learning, you will play a pivotal role in enhancing student learning and teacher practice through the integration of PBL across the curriculum.

Reporting to the Executive Director of Professional Learning, you will collaborate closely with teachers, school leaders, and department heads to develop and support the implementation of PBL strategies that engage students in meaningful learning experiences.

Your leadership will ensure that our PBL initiatives are aligned with the district's goals, promoting critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration among students.

EDUCATION TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:


RIDE Requirements:

  • Rhode Island District Level Administrator Certificate
  • Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment and/or Building Level Administrator
    and one or more of the following:
  • Any RI Teacher Certification-
  • Right to Read Proficiency within one year of hire-
  • Master's degree from an accredited college or university in education or a related field with coursework in curriculum development, instructional leadership, and project-based learning
    required;-
  • 5 years of outstanding teaching or related experience with a record of successfully impacting student language acquisition and cultural understanding-
  • ESL Preferred-
  • Bilingual or Multilingual preferred

  • This role is an exciting opportunity to serve as a leader within a diverse and dynamic team committed to transforming public education in the Providence Public School District (PPSD). We are hiring someone who believes in all students' capacity to achieve at high levels and can work collaboratively with a diverse set of partners and stakeholders to drive transformative change within and outside of the organization.

We're looking for someone to:

  • Collaborate with the School Redesign Team and the Curriculum Directors in the development and implementation of PBL opportunities aligned with core curriculum and state standards
  • Collaborate with educators, school leaders, principals, and Transformation Officers to embed PBL into the curriculum, ensuring alignment with school performance plans and strategies to boost student achievement.
  • Conduct classroom visits to observe PBL in action, offering actionable feedback to teachers to refine instructional practices and enhance student engagement.
  • In collaboration with the Executive Director of Professional Learning, facilitate professional development sessions on PBL for teachers and instructional coaches, fostering an environment of continuous learning and improvement.
  • Analyze data from PBL initiatives to inform continuous improvement efforts, identifying trends and areas for focus to improve student achievement.
  • Engage in meaningful conversations with educators and stakeholders to address challenges and identify opportunities for growth within PBL programming.
  • Report on the progress and impact of PBL initiatives to school leaders and the Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction, ensuring clear communication and alignment with educational goals.
  • Support the development and management of budgets related to PBL resources and materials, ensuring effective use of funds to maximize student learning outcomes.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Executive Directors.

  • Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and effectively with colleagues, including the ability to foster a professional community of adult learners.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to engage in productive, difficult conversations and to give and receive constructive feedback.
  • Experience using studentlevel data to guide instructional decisions and improve student outcomes.
  • Commitment to educational equity and the belief that all students can achieve at high levels.
