Position Summary


With minimum supervision, responsible for any combination of engineering technical duties which require a high degree of accuracy in the following functions: Materials & Processes, Dynamics, Electronic, Mechanical, or Calibration.


Responsibilities
MATERIALS & PROCESSES


Review incoming lab requests, determine test requirements and independently set‐up and operate all lab equipment including: Oscilloscopes, Logic Analyzers, Spectrum Analyzers, Frequency Response Analyzers.

Environmental test chambers, etc.
Perform post-test analysis and prepare test reports based on specification requirements.


DYNAMICS
Fabricate test consoles, test equipment, test boxes, cables from engineering sketches and drawings.

Improvise with limited information to meet the expected outcome of assembly and test requirements as coordinated with supervision and engineering.


ELECTRONIC
Devise, improvise, and trouble shoot electronic circuits and instrumentation set‐ups. Perform testing of electronic circuits using standard and specialized electronic test equipment following verbal or written instructions.


Use electronic experience and knowledge to assemble prototype test setups, LabView based consoles, Test boxes, from engineering sketches, drawings, and electronic schematics.

Must be able to troubleshoot and improvise with limited information to meet the expected outcome of assembly and test requirements as coordinated with supervision and engineering.


MECHANICAL
Participate in preplanning and prioritizing of multiple programs. Guide and direct operations working from concept through final assembly and testing. Independently fabricate, set‐up and trouble shoot experimental or limited run assembly and/or test activities on complex electronic set‐ups. Projects are highly technical presenting new processes and changing requirements. Analyze test failures and interface with design engineering to solve problems. Demonstrated ability to proficiently utilize all lab equipment. Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of electronic, test equipment, military specifications, and test procedures.


CALIBRATION
Performs engineering calibration on various types of semi‐complex and complex electronic measuring and test equipment (M&TE). Demonstrates ability to proficiently set‐up complex calibration test conditions interpreting calibration procedures, engineering specifications, schematics, or related documents.


ALL SPECIALTIES:

  • Demonstrate ability to proficiently utilize all lab or related test equipment and Instrumentation e.g., Oscilloscopes, Logic Analyzers, Spectrum Analyzers, Frequency Response Analyzers. Environmental test chambers, etc.
  • Functional understanding of digital electronic devices such as DSP's, FPGA's, PLA, BGA's, EPROMS, and logic gates as well as Analog circuit knowledge.
  • High level of experience with electronic hand tools such as Soldering irons, wire strippers, Wire Crimpers, SMT soldering tools, and breadboarding skills.
  • Soldering experience in SMD, Fine pitch, throughhole & power devices. Current or previous Soldering certification to J-STD00
  • Must be able to read schematic and assembly drawings.
  • Must be able to communicate on a technical level both verbally and in writing.
  • Must demonstrate strong organizational skills.
  • Interface with employees from other functional areas i.e., design engineering, process manufacturing, quality control and vendors.
  • Perform other related responsibilities.

Qualifications

  • Seven years related experience, trade or military training or demonstrated ability to perform described responsibilities.
  • Thorough understanding and demonstrated ability to read engineering drawings, sketches, schematics, and procedures. Ability to troubleshoot and repair test consoles, electronic assemblies etc.
  • Thorough Basic PC and electronic console skills where applicable. Ability to perform mathematical calculations.
  • Experience in soldering SMD, Fine pitch, throughhole & power devices.
  • Personal hand tools may be required. May be required to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Must demonstrate effective verbal, written and interpersonal skills. Ability to work effectively with others and be a participative team player.
