Police Officers ensure compliance with Federal laws and Agency rules and regulations pertaining to law enforcement work.

They maintain law and order; protect civil rights; carry firearms; provide assistance in emergency situations; investigate criminal activity and misconduct; and safeguard NGA personnel and assets.

They also conduct patrols; prevent and detect violations; prepare accident and incident reports; and conduct searches, interviews, and briefings.

Promotion opportunities allow applicants at all band levels to be considered. Qualifications for NGA positions do not include specific time-in-band requirements.

NGA will emphasize quality of experience, rather than duration, and assess how the quality of the experience demonstrates possession of the knowledge, skills, abilities, and competencies necessary for successful job performance in the NGA occupational structure.


Additional InformationASSIGNMENT DESCRIPTION:

Police Officers ensure compliance with Federal laws and Agency rules and regulations pertaining to law enforcement, anti-terrorisM/Force protection, and security work.

They maintain law and order; protect civil rights; carry a variety of firearms including less-lethal weapons; provide assistance in emergency situations; investigate criminal activity and misconduct; and safeguard NGA personnel and assets.


NGA Police Offices are required to sign a Continued Service Agreement requiring completion of 3 years' service with the Office of Protective Services.

Officers that leave the DoD, NGA, or the IC prior to completing the 3-year period of service may be required to reimburse the Agency for tuition and travel costs associated with required training.


Additionally:

  • Per the Lautenberg Amendment, applicants who have been convicted of domestic violence, or are under a restraining (protection) order for domestic violence are not eligible for employment as an NGA Police Officer.
  • NGA Police Officers are required to carry, and utilize firearms, in performance of their official duties in accordance with policy, directive, and law. Police Officers may be required to take their assigned firearms home.
  • Successful completion of an NGA accepted police academy is required in order to maintain employment.
  • Applicants are required to take and pass an initial Physical Ability Test (PAT) and medical physical examination conducted by the NGA Medical Unit. Also, applicants must take and pass the written entrance exam, polygraph examination, drug test, and receive a favorable security clearance adjudication before hire. Agency Police Officers are required to take an NGA administered medical exam and fitness test annually, and maintain a "pass" status while participating in random polygraph examinations and drug tests.
  • Applicants are required upon hire, to have a valid driver's license and must maintain a valid driver's license throughout their employment with NGA.
  • Demonstrated ability or experience to interpret laws, policies, and/or instructions governing law enforcement, security, and/or force protection activities.
  • Demonstrated ability or experience to adapt to rapidly changing environments while maintaining a level of situational awareness.
  • Demonstrated ability and/or experience preparing reports/documentation.
