Summer Junior Volunteer - Austin, United States - People's Community Clinic
Description
Overview:
This is a non-clinical volunteer opportunity intended for individuals between the ages of 15 to 17. Junior volunteers will not be involved in direct patient care or clinical procedures. Junior volunteers must have a guardian sign the minor consent form prior to applying.
The Junior Volunteer program at People's Community Clinic aims to engage young individuals between the ages of 15 to 17 in meaningful service within a federally qualified healthcare center. By participating in this program, junior volunteers will contribute to our mission of providing high-quality and affordable healthcare to uninsured and underserved communities.
The primary objective of the Junior Volunteer program is to foster a sense of community engagement, introduce young individuals to the healthcare field, and provide them with valuable non-clinical volunteering experiences.
Responsibilities:Under the supervision of Peoples Community Clinic employee, this individuals primary responsibilities include:
Assist with administrative tasks, such as filing, data entry, and organizing patient records.
Provide support in maintaining a clean and welcoming environment in waiting areas and common spaces.
Participate in community outreach events to promote health education and clinic services.
Help with organizing and distributing educational materials to patients and community members.
Assist in coordinating appointment reminders and follow-up calls.
Collaborate with staff members to support the overall operations of the clinic.
Education: Junior volunteers should be currently enrolled in high school or equivalent educational programs.
Experience: No prior experience is required, but an interest in healthcare, community service, or related fields is beneficial.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Basic understanding of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and good communication skills are preferred.
Preferred Qualifications:
Enthusiasm for contributing to the well-being of underserved populations.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively within a diverse team.
Interest in learning about healthcare operations, community outreach, and nonprofit organizations.
Commitment: Junior volunteers must commit to a minimum of 6 weeks during the summer. Weekly time commitment will be approximately 4-10 hours, based on the volunteer's availability and the clinic's needs.
