Job Summary:


The Firewall Upgrade Network Specialist will serve as a pivotal role in supporting with the implementation of network technologies for crucial IT projects.

The specialist will bring relevant expertise in routing, switching, and datacenter technologies to the table. Additionally, the incumbent will provide consultation services, aiding in architecture design planning, and executing necessary changes.


Scope of Services:


The Firewall Upgrade Network Specialist will primarily focus on network routing and switching tasks, encompassing design, deployment, and troubleshooting utilizing predominantly Cisco technologies.

The specialist will ensure mínimal service disruption during network refresh activities.


Tasks:


  • Conduct analysis and design of the network, primarily leveraging Cisco technologies, to minimize service disruptions during network refresh activities.
  • Develop router/switch Cisco configuration templates for both new deployments and legacy devices.
  • Perform testing for SNMP, syslog, NTP, and NetFlow.
  • Coordinate afterhours changes with various agencies, including creating change tickets, obtaining approvals, and addressing inquiries from teams.
  • Investigate and resolve network issues related to implementation, opening TAC cases as necessary, and identifying root causes.
  • Document network configurations in compliance with standards.
  • During decommissioning activities, remove legacy configurations, eliminate unused IP subnets and ports from documentation, and update network diagrams as per guidelines.
  • Attend meetings, follow up on assigned tasks, and fulfill additional duties delegated by the manager related to networking, configuration, VoIP, or QoS.

Mandatory Skills/Experience:


  • Minimum of twelve years of networking experience.
  • Handson experience with BGP, MPLS, OSPF routing protocols in a largescale environment.

Desirable Skills/Experience:


  • 12 years of experience in Cisco network installations in multiple ring configurations interconnected over dark fiber.
  • 6 years of experience deploying Cisco Catalyst/Nexus Switches and NCS routers, with comprehensive understanding of line cards, power supplies, and featuresets.
  • Proficiency in MPLS, EIGRP, OSPF, iBGP, eBGP, IS-IS routing protocols.
  • 4 years of experience configuring CORE/PE and CPE routers/switches in mid to large size organizations or carriers.
  • Detailed understanding of designing and implementing enterprise QoS solutions, including queuing for Catalyst, Nexus, and NCS products (2 years).
  • Detailed understanding of deploying management protocols such as SNMPv3, Syslog, Netflow, etc. (4 years).
  • Familiarity with optical technology theories and testing, including fiber types, terminations, attenuation, power transmission, bandwidth, budget, and loss.
  • Valid/current CCNP certificate (REQUIRED).
  • Strong analytical and conceptual skills.
  • Ability to collaborate in crossfunctional teams with excellent attention to detail.
  • Highly selfmotivated with a strong focus on customer satisfaction and quality.
  • Proficient problem resolution, judgment, and decisionmaking skills.
  • Experience working with both technical and nontechnical staff.
  • 4 years of experience reviewing project design and system documents.
  • Familiarity with designing network architectural designs in MS Visio (desired).
  • Knowledge of City of New York network infrastructure environments and processes.
