ABOUT THIS POSITION:


The Aviation Department manages and operates the Phoenix Airport System which consists of Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, Deer Valley Airport, and Goodyear Airport.

The Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport has consistently been ranked as one of the top ten busiest airports in the nation.

Serving more than 125,000 passengers daily, with over 1,200 flights per day, the airport has a total economic impact of more than $38 billion per year.


IDEAL CANDIDATE:


  • Knowledge of 2way radio communications and other wireless devices.
  • Ability to inspect and troubleshoot equipment at an entry level.
  • Ability to work under hazardous conditions where physical danger exists due to mechanical equipment.
  • Ability to communicate with supervision orally, in written form, oneonone, and in group settings on a professional level.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment when working unsupervised in the field and when providing direction to lower classifications.
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service to the public, City contractors, Aviation Department staff and various Airport/Airline employees.

SALARY:


Pay Range:
$18.60 to $31.82 per hour.

Hiring Range:
$18.60 to $26.18 per hour.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Completion of a departmental training course (certified by Personnel) for equipment being tested.
  • OR be qualified for "outofclass" pay as an Equipment Operator II.
  • OR log 120 hours on equipment being tested for.
  • OR have a minimum of two years of experience operating commercial equipment under two tons,
  • Six months of which must be operating on the same or related type of equipment performed by Equipment Operators II.
  • Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.
  • Moving objects weighing up to 50 pounds may be required.
  • May require working outside in a variety of environmental extremes such as heat, cold, rain, air pollution, and dust.
  • Working irregular hours, second and/or third shifts, weekends, holidays, and evenings may be required.

Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:


The minimum qualifications listed above, plus:

  • Experience working in an airport environment.
  • Experience working with maintenance facility operation.
  • Experience operating a pickup truck, small dump truck, stake body or flatbed truck or van, of less than twoton capacity.
