Job Summary:


The Patient Services Specialist II provides support to the department's call center that handles large volumes of inquiries and requests from patients and customers for access/assistance in scheduling diagnostic services, physician referral/appointments, and general information on the Department of Orthopedic Surgery.

In addition to handling calls, this role performs financial coordination for No Fault/Workers Compensation and/or out of network coordination.

The Patient Services Specialist II is part of a team that delivers an exceptional patient experience through Service-Oriented, Trust, Empathy, Safety, Inclusion, and Communication.


Responsibilities:


  • Schedules appointment requests.
  • Communicates insurance participation, financial responsibility and time of service policy to patient population.
  • Obtain patients' insurance and demographic information and ensure all obtained information is registered in EPIC.
  • Performs realtime insurance verification and interprets responses.
  • Helps to mentor other Specialists to resolve complex issues/cases. Escalate such cases to Supervisor for resolution.
  • Works on escalated cases with higher complexity as assigned.
  • Provide support and backup coverage as needed.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Inform the patient of their outofpocket responsibilities before surgery.
  • Collects surgical deposits and assists with financial counseling and setting up budget plans.
  • Follow up with outofnetwork surgical patients on their outstanding balances as needed.
  • Liaises with the CRO AR team on followup questions from spine patients.
  • Interact with Worker's Compensation and No Fault adjusters to obtain specific case information in order to schedule an appointment. Such as the body part, date of injury and collecting letters of authorization from the patient's employer. Escalates unresolved issues to Manager as appropriate.

Job Qualifications:


  • High School Diploma or the equivalent required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience including proficiency in medical, billing and financial terminology.
  • Demonstrated proficiency and understanding of financial counseling and/or worker's compensation and no fault cases.
  • Strong proficiency of Microsoft Office (Word & Excel) or similar software is required and an ability and willingness to learn new systems and programs.
  • Associates Degree or higher preferred.
  • Prior high volume customer service experience in a call center environment is preferred.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus

Hourly Rate Ranges:
$ $32.82

Our salary offers will fall within these ranges based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to experience, skill set, training and education.
