The Office of Admissions is charged with assisting the campus in reaching its undergraduate admission and enrollment objectives in accordance with the University mission and campus enrollment goals.

Department efforts are focused upon increasing the academic quality and diversity of the entering class while maintaining the required enrollment level.

These services are provided by three units within the department: Visitor Center, Outreach Services, and Application Services.

Brief Summary of Job Duties


In addition to assisting with major Admission events, the incumbent serves as an Admissions Counselor interpreting the University's administrative and academic policies and procedures to the public.

As an Admissions Counselor, the incumbent will provide pre and post admission information to prospective students, applicants, parents, and school administrators relating to academic offerings, admission requirements, and student life.

As an Admissions Counselor, the incumbent must have a thorough working knowledge of university admission requirements for high school and community college students.

Additionally, they must have a working knowledge of the UCSB academic offerings, the financial aid process, UCSB support services, and housing options.

Some seasonal travel throughout California may be required though most interactions with the public will occur in the UCSB Visitor Center, requiring full-time presence on campus.


As a representative of Admissions and UCSB, the Incumbent should demonstrate the highest level of professionalism and judgment, have excellent public speaking and organizational skills, and solid analytical skills.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training
  • Experience advising and supporting students regarding postsecondary opportunities and careers
  • Experience in event coordination

Preferred Qualifications

  • Effective utilization of social media platforms for informational and recruitment purposes

  • Maintain a valid CA driver's license, a clean DMV record and enrollment in the DMV Employer Pull-Notice Program

Job Functions and Percentages of Time:
Event Coordination - 40%


Develop and coordinate annual services, events, conferences, tours, and summer programs specifically for prospective high school and community college students, parents, counselors, and CBO's.

Collaborate with the Associate Director of Admissions, School Services and the Assistant Director, Admissions, Visitor Center to develop, coordinate, promote and implement large-scale events both on-campus and off-campus.

Collect, analyze, and evaluate program effectiveness utilizing outcome assessment methods.


On campus events include UCSB's Open House, Gaucho Transfer Fridays, UC Counselor Conferences, UC for You, Diversity Initiatives, Community College residential summer institutes, Chancellor's Receptions, and events for CBO partners.

Serve as the liaison with relevant departments, staff and faculty to ensure appropriate campus representation at these events. Incorporate UCSB staff, faculty, and students into the program itinerary.

Work closely with the Assistant Director, Communications to design promotional pieces for events and update the website with relevant information and coordinate social media.

Design and implement publicity campaigns to disseminate event promotional materials at high schools and community colleges throughout California.
