Job Description:

AECOM is seeking an on-call Archaeologist for employment based in the San Diego area. This position will support our Environmental Planning & Permitting team within our Environment business line.

This position is primarily a field position for survey and monitoring projects in the San Diego area, though travel throughout California and in other states may be required.

Desktop work, including preparation of State of California Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) site forms, monitoring reports, and report sections will also be required.


Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Performing cultural resources monitoring, surveys, testing and data recovery, recordation of archaeological resources, and prepare supporting documentation.
  • Assisting with lab analysis, setting up and operating Geographic Information Systems (GIS) equipment, and maintaining proper field notes and equipment.
  • Recording field data and providing observation and interpretations of it.
  • Completing specific project tasks including the technical or logístical aspects of delivering specific components of a project's scope, meeting with team members to gauge progress toward schedule, scope and budget.

Qualifications:


Minimum Requirements:


  • BA/BS in Anthropology or Archaeology or a closely related field or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
  • Willingness/ability to travel and conduct fieldwork as needed with the flexibility to travel on overnight or long-term projects.
  • Valid driver's license is required.

Preferred Qualifications:


  • 2 years of relevant experience.
  • MA or MS in Anthropology or Archaeology or related field.
  • Meet the Secretary of the Interior's Professional Qualification Standards for Archaeology.
  • Completion of a university-based archaeological field school, and relevant experience in related role.
  • Experience with CAD, GIS, Global Positioning System (GPS), and/or Adobe Illustrator/Photoshop.
  • Demonstrated experience writing portions of technical reports.
  • Relevant field experience in Southern California.
  • Excellent proactive communication skills in terms of responsiveness, detailed assessments, and risk management.

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $28.00/hour - $36.00/hour.
