Job Description:

Summary:


The Temporary Part Time Social Media and Communications Coordinator will work with the Department Manager (DM) and Chair of Department of Politics, Governance, and Economics within the School of International Service at American University.

The Social Media and Communications Coordinator will create social media content, maintain the department website with new and updated content, and work with the DM on different administrative projects for the summer


Essential Functions:

  • Design and create event promotional materials.
  • Assist with event logistics such as maintaining a registration list, creating an event webpage, and/or running technology for virtual events.
  • Research and compile relevant professional development and employment opportunities for graduate students for the Fall.
  • Create social media posts to promote events and programs. Assist in the moderation of programspecific social media pages.
  • As applicable, assist with marketing campaigns and website maintenance.
  • Other duties as determined by the Department Manager.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

  • Part-Time, hours per week.
  • Remote work flexibility, based upon need.
  • May require occasional evening, inperson or virtual, event attendance.

Required Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Excellent Social Media experience and content creation
  • Strong written communication skills.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Ability to work selfsufficiently on assigned tasks.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Strong website management, and experience scraping, are preferred.
  • Graphic design skills are a plus.
  • Experience with Canvas, MailChimp, and Eventbrite is strongly preferred.
  • Commitment to developing accessible materials for a diverse student body.
