    Job Summary

    The Medical Imaging Employee is responsible for performing high quality imaging in either general radiography, mammography, CT, MRI, general sonography, echocardiography and nuclear medicine. The incumbent will possess knowledge in terminology related to medical imaging, anatomy, and pathology. They will possess strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with a variety of patient populations.

    Duties and Responsibilities - Applies to All
    • Performs diagnostic exams and procedures including room set up, radiologist assist proper cleaning of room upon completion of procedure, knowledge of proper disposal of soiled linen, sharps, and other instruments, and proper aseptic technique.
    • Ensures proper patient identification and order verification. Ensures that the examination order is complete, contains required information, and meets the standard of "medical necessity" if required.
    • Clinically assesses the patient and performs the diagnostic medical examination ordered by the physician per department protocol.
    • Applies critical thinking as well as independent, professional, and ethical judgement to safely perform diagnostic procedures.
    • Demonstrates anatomical positioning competency for performed procedures.
    • Reviews patient medical history and supporting clinical information if available.
    • Demonstrates ability to critique own images ensuring that they meet the facility standards for quality. Prepares the clinical information necessary for interpretation by the reporting physician.
    • Completes studies within acceptable time limitations per department expectations without compromising patient care or the quality of the examination.
    • Practices appropriate infection control and sterile techniques. Cleans equipment and instruments including sterilization when appropriate.
    • Provides patient education, as needed, and assures patient comfort and safety. Communicates with the patient in a manner appropriate to the patient's ability to understand.
    • Evaluates for contraindications, insufficient patient preparation and the patient's inability or unwillingness to tolerate the examination and associated procedures. Identifies and documents any limitations to ordered test. Reports findings to ordering and reporting physicians.
    • Must have the ability to perform all secretarial and receptionist duties including scheduling, completion of paper work and patient preparation. Supports and maintains a culture of safety and quality.
    • Must have a positive attitude when dealing with patients and hospital staff. Establishes and maintains collaborative working relationships with co-workers, administrators and members of the health care team.
    • Provides care appropriate to condition and age of the patient, including pediatric, geriatric and general population.
    • Completes annual educational requirements for MMH. Has a commitment to professional growth and lifelong learning. Maintains educational requirements to maintain licensure.
    • Maintains regulatory requirements.
    • Exercises responsibility for the archival of physician orders, worksheets related to exams performed and any related patient documents being stored in the Hospital Information System (HIS).
    • Has the ability to operate and ensure that studies are properly stored on the Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS).
    • Reports to work on time and as scheduled.
    • Consistently completes and maintains assigned duties and reports below normal PAR levels to the appropriate individual.
    • Maintains inventory supplies if special ordering is not required.
    • Actively participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities.
    • Follows appropriate protocol for charging out supplies used during exams, obtaining consents if necessary, documenting any event that may occur.
    • Reports any equipment failures or programs.
    • Complies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.
    • Communicates the Mission and Vision Statement of the hospital, as well as the Core Values through actions, behavior and quality of work.
    • Perform daily equipment inspections.
    • Educate patient as to the extent and detail of each invasive procedure, which may include informed consent as well as pre-and post-procedure instructions.
    • Ensure the proper exam is being administered to the patient. Consult provider as needed.
    • Monitors patients during exams and works with the appropriate staff to ensure quality patient care.
    • Maintains patient privacy and confidentiality in accordance with privacy laws (E.G., HIPPA) and facility policies and procedures.
    • Ensures safety of patients during exams.
    • Adheres to accepted professional and ethical standards.
    • Actively engage in quality improvement activities.
    • Maintain a high level of communication with patients, physicians, co-workers and supervisors.
    • Have strong communication and interpersonal skills as well as sensitivity to patient's problems and concerns.
    • Assist with the daily operation of the Medical Imaging Department and perform other duties as assigned.
    • Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
    Requirements

    Medical Imaging Technologist
    • Be familiar with the ALARA program and follow proper radiation safety. Wear radiation badge continually while on duty.
    • Performs diagnostic radiologic examinations per department protocol.
    • Demonstrates knowledge of x-ray production, KVP, MA and time.
    • Demonstrate a complete working knowledge of all x-ray producing equipment within the department.
    • Ability to assist the radiologist with invasive procedures.
    • Exhibits proficiency with digital imaging. Must be able to view, transfer and manipulate images.
    Minimum Requirements
    • ARRT registered radiologic technologist or registry eligible (Must pass registry within 6 months of hire)
    • Must be willing to perform ARRT related exams as needed.
    • Basic life support (BLS) certified for healthcare providers.
    Preferred Requirements
    • Bachelor's degree in related field.
    • Experience.
    Mammography Technologist
    • Collect key information from the patient, and the patient's provider that are specific to the exam being performed in order to assist the interpreting radiologist with the proper diagnosis.
    • Performs mammography examinations per department protocol.
    • Demonstrate a complete working knowledge of screening and diagnostic mammography equipment within the department.
    • Ability to perform stereotactic biopsy N/A Applicable
    • Performs screening or diagnostic mammography exams using excellent positioning and exposure techniques. Follows written order or self-referral protocol.
    • Ability to assist the radiologist with invasive procedures.
    Minimum Requirements
    • ARRT registered radiologic technologist.
    • Must be willing to perform ARRT related exams as needed.
    • Basic life support (BLS) certified for healthcare providers.
    • Certified by the ARRT in Mammography.
    Preferred Requirements
    • Bachelor's degree in related field.
    • Experience working in the field of Mammography.
    CT Technologist
    • Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of protocol relating to contrast administration.
    • Performs CT examinations per department protocol.
    • As ordered by the physician and under radiologist/physician indirect supervision administers oral contrast products or intravenous contrast material to patients.
    • Demonstrates a complete working knowledge of all CT equipment and related systems within the department to ensure that quality images are produced.
    • Ensures proper dosing of IV contrast material.
    • Exhibits proficiency with digital imaging. Must be able to view, transfer and manipulate images.
    • Ability to assist the radiologist with invasive procedures.
    • Exhibits proficiency with digital imaging. Must be able to view, transfer and manipulate images.
    • In coordination with the radiologist, demonstrates ability to select proper scanning techniques and protocols.
    • Exhibits working knowledge of contrast injectors.
    • Understands cross sectional anatomy and demonstrates anatomical positioning competency.
    • Exhibits a working knowledge of the CT scanner. Able to troubleshoot when needed and understands the shutdown and start up procedures.
    Minimum Requirements
    • ARRT registered radiologic technologist.
    • Must be willing to perform ARRT related exams as needed.
    • Basic life support (BLS) certified for healthcare providers.
    • Certified by the ARRT in CT.
    Preferred Requirements

    MRI Technologist
    • Performs MRI examinations per department protocol.
    • Understands cross sectional anatomy and demonstrates anatomical positioning competency.
    • In coordination with the radiologist, demonstrates ability to select proper scanning
    • Ensures proper dosing of IV contrast material.
    • Exhibits proficiency with digital imaging. Must be able to view, transfer and manipulate images.
    • Ability to assist the radiologist with invasive procedures.
    • Exhibits proficiency with digital imaging. Must be able to view, transfer and manipulate images.
    • In coordination with the radiologist, demonstrates ability to select proper scanning techniques and protocols.
    • Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of protocol relating to contrast administration. As ordered by the physician and under radiologist indirect supervision administers intravenous contrast material to patients.
    • Understands and operates all MRI equipment and related systems within the department to ensure that quality images are produced.
    • Exhibits a working knowledge of the MRI scanner. Able to troubleshoot when needed and understands the shutdown and start up procedures.
    • Exhibits a working knowledge of the magnet, cryogens, gradient amplifiers, and all computer hardware and software.
    • Understands the Quench procedure and when it should be performed.
    • Adheres to and understands MRI safety policies
    • Understands proper MR magnet safety in an event of an emergency.
    Minimum Requirements
    • ARRT registered radiologic technologist.
    • Must be willing to perform ARRT related exams as needed.
    • Basic life support (BLS) certified for healthcare providers.
    • Certified by the ARRT in MRI.
    Preferred Requirements
    • Bachelor's degree in related field.

    Ultrasound Technologist
    • Performs ultrasound examinations per department protocol.
    • In coordination with the radiologist, demonstrates ability to select proper scanning techniques and protocols.
    • Selects a transducer and adjusts the equipment controls according to the organ to be examined, the depth of field and other specifications of test.
    • Ability to evaluate technical quality of images to obtain representative images of pathogenic conditions.
    • Discusses test results with interpreting radiologist if necessary.
    • Understands and practices proper use of all ultrasound equipment within the department to ensure that quality images are produced.
    • Cleans equipment to ensure proper functioning; cleans and sterilizes instruments, supplies and equipment as necessary.
    Minimum Requirements
    • Must be willing to perform ARRT related exams as needed.
    • Basic life support (BLS) certified for healthcare providers.
    • Certified by the ARDMS in US.
    Preferred Requirements
    • Bachelor's degree in related field.
    • Experience working as an US technologist.
    • Experience working as an echocardiographer.
    Echocardiography Technologist
    • Performs echocardiographic examinations per department protocol.
    • In coordination with the cardiologist, demonstrates ability to select proper scanning techniques and protocols.
    • Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of changing the standard protocol relating to contrast administration.
    • Acquires data by calculating measurements of heart wall, chamber size, and blood flow direction and velocity; compares measurements to established norms.
    Minimum Requirements
    • Must be willing to perform Echo related exams as needed.
    • Basic life support (BLS) certified for healthcare providers.
    • Certified by the ARDMS or CCI in echo.
    Preferred Requirements
    • Bachelor's degree in related field.
    • Experience working as an echo technologist.
    • Experience in pediatric echo.
    • Experience in fetal echo.
    Nuclear Medicine Technologist
    • Performs nuclear medicine examinations per department protocol.
    • Orders, prepares, administers, stores and disposes of radiopharmaceuticals according to established protocols and applicable regulations/standards. Monitors patient condition continually and reports/responds to changes in status as appropriate.
    • Prepares equipment and supplies. Selects appropriate exposure factors and imaging parameters. Implements safety standards and performs appropriate quality control procedures on equipment. Troubleshoots, resolves, and/or reports equipment malfunctions as necessary. Schedules regular PM appointments with qualified vendor.
    • Monitor and watch for any unusual reactions patients may have to drugs/radioisotopes.
    • Follow safety and disposal radiation procedures.
    • In coordination with the cardiologist/radiologist, demonstrates ability to select proper scanning techniques and protocols.
    • Complies with all of the regulations set forth by the NRC.
    Minimum Requirements
    • ARRT registered radiologic technologist.
    • Must be willing to perform nuclear medicine related exams as needed.
    • Basic life support (BLS) certified for healthcare providers.
    • NM registered by ARRT or NMTCB.
    Preferred Requirements
    • Bachelor's degree in related field.
    • Experience working in NM.

    Physical Requirements

Must be able to lift 50 pounds maximum with frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of objects weighing up to 25 pounds. Continuous walking and standing. Must be able to identify, match, and distinguish colors. Rare lifting of greater than 100 pounds.
