***: The School Counselor/Social Worker will provide supportive counseling, consultation, and services to the linguistically, racially, and ethnically diverse Lexington students, their families, and the community at large.
PRIMARY DUTIES:
- Provide individual counseling as mandated on the IEP for students ages 321 years old.
- Provide counseling and support on an as needed basis
- Keep up to date charts for assigned caseload
- Provide family counseling on an as needed basis
- Facilitate psychoeducational and therapeutic groups
- Consult with educational staff
- Write Mental Health Evaluations and Social Histories for referrals
- Evaluate psychiatric emergencies (suicide evaluations)
- Participate in team meetings and inservice trainings
- Provide information for entitlement services
- Work in collaboration with the school to develop and modify program
- Collaborate with community agencies
- Support the school's Strategic planning initiatives with an emphasis on culture. Demonstrate commitment to the school purpose, vision, and mission.
- Perform additional job duties as assigned by supervisor
REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and administrators
- Ability to establish rapport and professional relationships with students and families
- Excellent time management, planning, and organizational skills
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Masters Degree in Social Work or Counseling
- Must possess relevant state or nationally recognized professional certification/licensure (such as NYS LMSW/LCSW or NCC/LMHC) or attain within one year of employment
- Knowledge of child and adolescent development
- Counseling experience
- Ability to communicate in American Sign Language (ASL)
SECURITY CLEARANCE:
- Required clearances include medical clearance, fingerprinted by the NYC Board of Ed, SCR, and SEL clearance
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
- Prolonged periods of walking in and around the building
- Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times
