Job Summary
We seek a Research Scientist to join the laboratory of Dr. Michael Elowitz at Caltech in Pasadena, CA.

The Research Scientist is expected to carry out pioneering research programs in the field of systems biology to understand the combinatorial roles of biological components in the context of gene regulation and signal processing by using interdisciplinary approaches including genetics, synthetic biology, high-throughput genomics, single-cell and spatial multi-omics, and bioinformatics.


Essential Job Duties
- (70%) Perform experiments and analysis for research projects by using genetics, synthetic biology, genomics, and bioinformatic approaches (including genetic engineering, CUT&Tag, RNA-seq, DNA/RNA FISH, immunofluorescence, and data processing and downstream analysis as well as a development of new methodologies and pipelines).
- (10%) Prepare and present progress reports of the research projects in the meeting.
- (10%) Collaborate with other lab members for various research projects.
- (10%) Contribute to maintain the common lab environment and equipment.


Basic Qualifications

  • Ph.
D. in Systems Biology, Molecular Biology, Computational Biology, Biochemistry, or related fields.

  • Three or more years of relevant scientific research experience.
  • Indepth knowledge and skills of molecular biology, genetics, and bioinformatics.
  • Ability to make independent decisions on the research directions based on the experimental results.
  • Ability to communicate and work with lab members with various research backgrounds.
  • Ability to perform clear scientific communications, including giving scientific talks and writing manuscripts.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Postdoctoral research experience for at least 2 years.
  • Research experience of a technology development in genomics (e.g., spatial genomics, singlecell genomics by sequencing or imaging).
  • Research experience in the topic of gene regulation and/or signaling pathways.
  • Mentoring experience with undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Rich experience in scientific communication (e.g., conference presentation, scientific writing).
  • Experience with a grant writing and acquisition.
  • Experience with highthroughput data and their management.
  • Strong skills in singlecell and/or spatial genomics/transcriptomics.
  • Ability to conceive and perform independent research programs.
