Job Summary:
The Arizona Department of Juvenile Corrections (ADJC) is seeking a Education Program Teacher.

ADJC is seeking an individual who is passionate about their profession and who will be committed to making a difference in the lives of Arizona's underserved youth.

This position will work under the direction of an Education Program Administrator in providing educational services for adjudicated youth that are aligned with the Arizona State Academic Standards.


Job Duties:
The job functions of a DJ Education Program Teacher include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Instructs youth in development of academic, vocational and social skills in groups and individually in assigned area
  • Assign pertinent school work to youth
  • Maintains daily/weekly classroom attendance records
  • Ensures students complete daily work assignments
  • Plans and prepares instruction/learning activities in accordance with state and local performance measures, and administers test to evaluate student achievement
  • Attends teachers meetings
  • Performing other duties appropriate to the assignment

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge of:

  • Federal and state education laws, rules, and regulations
  • Effective instructional techniques
  • State Academic Standards
  • Maintaining confidentiality

Skill in:

  • Classroom management
  • Differentiated classroom instructions
  • Modification of academic work as appropriate
  • Data Collecting
  • Assessing students in academic and behavioral skills and progress
  • Written and verbal communication

Ability to:

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships
  • Counsels students in relation to their educational goals and objectives
  • Analyze and evaluate academic and vocational growth of the students
  • Learn and use standard departmental software
  • Learn and follow agency policies and procedures
  • Work closely with adjudicated youth in an institutional or community setting

Selective Preference(s):
Three years of teaching experience with at least one year of work with at-risk youth


Pre-Employment Requirements:

REQUIRED:
Employment is contingent on the selected applicant passing a comprehensive background investigation, behavioral assessment, drug screening. No felony convictions.

Current State of Arizona employees:

In order to be considered for this position, it requires acceptable performance history as demonstrated by not have been issued a letter of suspension or have been involuntarily demoted within one year preceding this job posting close date, and have an overall rating of "meets expectations" or higher on the most recent employee performance evaluation.

  • Employees are fully vested after 3 years of service
