    Job Description

    Performs intermediate human support work providing personal care and supportive nursing aide assignments senior citizen clients; does related work as required. Work is directed and supervised by the In-Home Supervisor.

    Position Responsibilities

    Provides personal care and supportive nursing aide assignments to senior citizen clients. May perform as a substitute Daycare Aide to maintain a structured environment for adult daycare participants through scheduled activities, participant supervision, and providing appropriate documentation.

    • Provides personal and environmental care tasks such as meal preparation, housekeeping, and home management to elderly and handicapped clients.
    • Provides personal and preventative care such as personal hygiene, assisting with mobility, dressing, positioning/turning, and catheter care.
    • Provides simple medical treatments and procedures in accordance with the Certified Nurse Aide scope of practice defined by the North Carolina Board of Nursing.
    • Assists patient with prescribed exercises prescribed by appropriate professional personnel.
    • Prepares progress notes and reports any changes in patient's condition to supervisor.
    • Motivates client toward self sufficiency.
    • Performs assigned functions as a Disaster Ready Team (DRT) member, if appointed or volunteer.
    • Maintain a clean, comfortable, and safe environment for senior citizens/daycare participants.
    • Complete required documentation regarding tasks performed, attendance, and program utilization.
    • Coordinate structure activities for daycare participants.
    • Observe senior citizens/daycare participants for changes in health status; assist with feeding and personal care; assist with dressing, bathing, grooming, and changing adult protective products.
    • Performs related tasks as required.
    Qualifications

    Considerable knowledge of the routine care and treatment of acutely chronically ill clients; working knowledge of general physical and mental problems of the chronically ill and obvious signs of condition changes; skill in observing and assessing basic personal health care and home management needs of patients; ability to read and carry out detailed instructions; ability to work with older adults; ability to work with people from all socio-economic levels; ability to carry out health aid work in the home of a patient; ability to practice sound hygiene and sanitation techniques; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients and associates.

    Education, Experience, and Special Requirements

    High School Graduate or equivalent with some experience as a certified nurse aide.

    This is medium work requiring the exertion of 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; work requires stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, fingering, feeling, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word, and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly, or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels, and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; visual acuity is required for depth and color perception, peripheral vision, preparing and analyzing written or computer data, use of measuring devices, operation of machines, operation of motor vehicles or equipment, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, and atmospheric conditions. The worker may be exposed to blood borne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment.

    Special Requirements:
    -Must possess a valid driver's license

    -Must be listed as a Nurse Aide I with the North Carolina Board of Nursing

    -Must possess current CPR Certification
    -Must possess a current or have the ability to obtain a baseline Tuberculosis Skin Test prior to employment.

    Salary will be determined based on qualifications, internal equity, budget, and market considerations.

    Vision insurance is provided by MetLife to full-time employees and covers a variety of materials (contacts and glasses frames/lenses) and an annual eye exam.

    North Carolina Local Governmental Employees' Retirement System
    Eligible employees are automatically enrolled in the retirement system and must contribute 6% of their gross salary each pay period. Once eligibility requirements are met, employees will be able to receive monthly payments for life based on their salary, age, and years of service credit.

    NC401k
    The County contributes 1/2% of employees' gross salary into the 401(k) account regardless of the employee's deferral amount. In addition, the County matches employee deferrals up to an additional 2%.

    Vacation Leave
    Regular full-time employees earn 13.5 days of vacation leave per year. With each 5-year increment of employment, vacation accrual increases.

    Sick Leave
    Regular full-time employees earn 12 days of sick leave per year.

    Paid Holidays
    County employees receive paid holidays annually. The Board of County Commissioners approves and may adjust the schedule as deemed necessary.

    Employee Assistance Program
    The County provides an Employee Assistance Program to help employees and their families with personal, family and job-related problems such as depression, substance abuse, and financial or legal concerns.
