- Has education and experience equivalent to the guidelines mandated by CMS in the Clinical Lab Improvement Act (CLIA) of 1988 and NJSDH requirements.
- BSMT or AS/ AAS including clinical rotations.
- At least 4 years of experience within the subspecialty where they will be functioning as lead technologist.
- Certified ( or, certification eligible) by a Category I Agency (ASCP, NCA, AMT, HIS/HEW)

- Assists in the management of the section s administrative procedures
- Maintains the technical policy and procedure manual for the section in compliance with requirements of accreditation and regulatory agencies
- Operates and instructs on POCT instrumentation assigned to designated department and/or shift
- Orders and regulates inventory of stock supplies. Meets with sales personnel as required. Evaluates new supplies as required.
- Participates in quality control programs, proficiency testing programs, and CQI processes; evaluates the performance and effectiveness of same.
- Participates in the instruction and orientation of new associates and students
- Performs all manual technical procedures assigned to designated department and/or shift
- Performs all other duties as assigned or directed within scope of department needs and capabilities
- Performs troubleshooting, maintenance and repair procedures on POCT equipment and analyzes as required
- Responsible for accurate performance and participation in both internal and external quality assurance policies and programs for POCT areas
- Responsible for ensuring compliance to all CLIA, CAP, JCAHO, CDC, OSHA, AABB, and NJSDH technical and regulatory requirements within the section
- Responsible for the evaluation of new methods and procedures under the direction of the Department Supervisor
- Responsible for the identification of patients/specimens in compliance with all hospital and regulatory requirements
