Reporting to the Director of Learning Experience, the Assistant Director effectively manages strategic projects and oversees timely delivery and quality assurance under tight timelines.

This position identifies and optimizes educational technologies and systems that promote curricular innovation and student engagement.

The Assistant Director of Learning Experience supervises instructional design staff and manages resources associated with the development and redevelopment of existing and new online courses and programs.

This position has direct supervisory responsibilities.

This is a hybrid position with the Incumbent required to work onsite at the Portland Maine campus Tuesday-Thursday with the option to work remotely on Monday and Friday.

Additional on-campus time may be required as needed.

Responsibilities

Leadership in Developing STEM
Curriculum

  • Provides leadership to implement strategic initiatives with assistance from the Director of Learning Experience.
  • Stays current with trends in online education and educational technology to leverage opportunities for continuous improvement of the learning experience.
  • Provides project management leadership to ensure highquality and efficient course development under tight timelines.
  • Sets up frameworks to create learning experiences in sciences at scale.
  • Meets regularly with Instructional Designers, Academic Program Directors, and the Director of Learning Experience to discuss and implement strategies for continuous quality improvement of programs and curricula.

Instructional Design and Technology

  • Partners with instructional designers and academic program leadership to create consistent and appropriate assessment policies and guidelines. Provides guidance in curriculum and assessment best practices, especially for sciencebased courses.
  • Works collaboratively to ensure that all UNE Online programs and courses comply with all Title V, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and Section 508 of the Workforce Rehabilitation Act requirements and standards for education, as directed by UNE leadership.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree preferred, plus 35 years combined instructional design and/or education technology experience, or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills are acquired. Higher education experience and project management experience required; prior supervisory or team leadership experience preferred.
  • Experience managing individuals and initiatives.
  • Knowledge and use of higher education CRM systems preferred.
  • Demonstrated management and leadership ability and experience in motivating, supervising and evaluating the performance of staff.
  • Experience adopting, integrating, managing, and training others on use of original and thirdparty mediarich textbook and lab content and tools.
  • Friendly, professional attitude and mentality with the ability to influence.
  • Effective analytic, interpersonal, technology and communications skills.
  • Ability to stay organized and work in a fastpaced environment.
