Are you passionate about empowering Maine students to achieve their goals? If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you to join our team as a JMG High School Completion Specialist at Windham High School in Windham, ME (Cumberland County).


The primary role of the HSC Specialist is to build relationships with and provide a guiding path for students and youth who participate in the program including academic support, guidance and advocacy, and post-secondary career and education planning.

We seek a dedicated educator who is confident, creative, and can work collaboratively with our school partners and local businesses to provide the best possible opportunities for our students.


Summary of Responsibilities:
Identifies, recruits, and instructs 20-25 youth (ages that are in the process of disengaging - are close to or have disengaged - from the traditional high school and are interested in completing requirements for a high school diploma or attaining a high school diploma equivalent.


A primary role of the HSC Specialist is to build relationships with, and provide a guiding path for students and youth who participate in the program including academic support, guidance and advocacy, and post-secondary career and education planning.


Essential Functions:


  • Works collaboratively with the school administration and guidance department to identify qualifying students for the program. Works closely with community organizations, parents and adult education to re-connect students to their learning environment.
  • Provides appropriate curriculum and ensures students achieve support for their credit attainment and recovery needs. Tailors the program for the needs of each specific student, and implements an intervention strategy for each individual.
  • Establishes and implements a career development plan for all enrolled students.
  • Ensures positive perceptions of the JMG program within schools by developing and maintaining positive, effective working relationships with school personnel including teachers, administrators, students, and members of the Advisory Committee.
  • Advocates for the program and develops a pool of effective community support resources by working with employers, parents, civic groups, and legislators to build awareness of and support for the program; develops job opportunities, participates in public relations activities, attends meetings and speaks to various community groups.
  • Complies with all documentation requirements in a timely fashion including contacts and activities involving students, employers, and other groups; develops and maintains a well-organized filing system.
  • Participates in staff, regional, and state-wide meetings, and staff development activities.

Additional Responsibilities:


  • Performs various school-related functions.
  • Participates in field trips.
  • Completes special projects and other projects/duties as assigned by their supervisor.

Job Qualifications:


  • Bachelor?s Degree
  • Must have Maine CHRC approval (or be eligible for CHRC approval)
  • Experience working with youth accompanied by knowledge of child development issues.
  • Skills in human relations, leadership, supervision, and motivational techniques.
  • Ability to work 12 months per year.
  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities.
  • Ability to establish appropriate boundaries while developing and nurturing supportive relationships with students.
  • Ability to educate a variety of constituencies and interested parties about the program by developing ongoing relationships and making formal presentations.
  • Ability to develop curriculum and educational opportunities consistent with the JMG model.
The start date for this position is late July 2024.

Compensation for this position is $43,000 plus additional bonuses. Paid time off includes school vacation weeks in December, February, and April, plus 15 additional vacation days. Staff also have 3 weeks of sick time, and 1 week of Covid time if needed.
