Career Navigator - WFD (Baltimore City Location)

JOB SUMMARY:


The Career Navigator works specifically with program participants conducting vocational assessments and providing case management services to ensure successful linkage to training programs of interest and eventual job placement.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Builds a relationship with participants in order to properly assess barriers and strengths and assess fitness for GIC and external WFD opportunities.
  • Provides case management wraparound support to program participants, linking them with community resources to eliminate barriers.
  • Assists with administrative responsibilities for tracking training program enrollment, stipend disbursement, and access to resources.
  • Facilitates communication between participants and program instructors to ensure successful course completion and certificate attainment.
  • Participates and supports job placement activities including providing necessary services; including interview coaching, assistance with appropriate dress and behaviors, resume refinement, and other activities as necessary.
  • Supports program participants in accessing training portals by implementing the training curricula and assignment of user roles.
  • Assists all participants in developing Individualized Vocational Plans (IVPs) suited to their educational and training needs, including short and longterm vocational goals.
  • Successfully case notes all communication with participants into the software database to be accessed by other Goodwill staff.
  • Assist in the delivery of the assigned instructional course, collaborating on the essential elements of the curriculum that focus on employment skills and competencies.
  • Supports WFD recruitment efforts through participation in community events.
  • Utilizes GIC's case management system to conduct intake and refer to training programs and employment assistance.
  • Functions as a feedback loop to training components of WFD system with a goal to continuously improve client preparedness and ability to meet employer needs.
  • Responsible for dismissal of clients from the program due to compliance, loss of contact or declination of further services.
  • Participates actively in team meetings as well as provides support when necessary to team members
  • Serves as GIC's mission representative
  • Other duties as assigned

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:


  • Bachelor's degree in human services, education or other directly related discipline required.
  • Two (2) years of experience in career development, job coaching, job placement or recruitment required.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:


  • Must possess a current valid and unrestricted driver's license and be fully insured according to Maryland law

  • Understanding and knowledge of conflict management techniques
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to complete tasks with numerous interruptions and limited direct supervision; Exception time management skills
  • Knowledge and understanding of current labor market trends, employment trends, and workplace cultures
  • Coaching and counseling skills with knowledge of standard teaching practices, methods and techniques
  • Ability to ascertain facts by personal contact, observation and examination of records and reports
  • Knowledge and awareness of resources within the community
  • Knowledge and understanding of case management skills, techniques, processes and standards
  • Ability to work closely with other members of a team for common goals
  • Results driven and people focused
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint; Intermediate knowledge of the Internet, including how to use web browsers to search for information

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:


Sedentary
Lifting up to 10 pounds maximum and occasionally lifting and/or carrying such articles as dockets, ledgers and files. Walking and standing are occasionally required. Frequently required to use hands and fingers to hold, handle and feel objects, knobs, keys and/or buttons


TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:


Travel is defined as travel to all areas within Goodwill's territory (Cecil, Harford, Baltimore, Howard, and Anne Arundel Counties, Baltimore City and the entire Eastern Shore of Maryland).
