Description
Fairview Lake YMCA Camps is seeking to fill multiple Senior Staff positions for this summer. All roles begin on June 9, 2024 and we would prefer candidates who can stay through August 24, 2024. We are also open to extending employment to staff beyond August 24 and into our outdoor education season. We are located in Sussex County, NJ and are about 90 minutes from New York City. Our 660-acre property borders the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, and the AT is just a short walk from camp. The centerpiece of our camp is a 110-acre lake, where we swim, boat, sail, and windsurf - and enjoy incredible sunsets
Unit Leader
As a Unit Leader at Fairview Lake YMCA Camps, you will play a pivotal role in creating a welcoming, nurturing, and engaging environment for campers, ensuring they feel safe and supported while away from home. With a focus on personal growth, maturity, hygiene, and socialization, you will serve as both a leader and a friend to the children under your care, guiding them through their camp experience with empathy and authority. Encouraging campers to set and achieve goals independently, you will empower them to make decisions and take actions without relying on parental guidance, fostering a sense of self-reliance and confidence.
Your leadership responsibilities will extend to supervising, motivating, and evaluating counselors within your unit, ensuring they uphold camp policies and create a positive atmosphere for campers. From overseeing the daily functioning of the unit to conducting inspections and addressing maintenance concerns promptly, you will maintain a high standard of safety and cleanliness. Collaborating with campers, counselors, and parents, you will address any challenges or issues that arise, promoting effective communication and problem-solving skills.
Lakeside Waterfront Director (Swimming & Boating)
As the Waterfront Director at Fairview Lake YMCA Camps, your leadership is crucial in maintaining a safe and enriching aquatic environment for campers. With a focus on nurturing personal growth and maturity, you'll serve as a mentor, guiding campers through waterfront activities with authority and compassion. Essential to this role is your certification as an American Red Cross Lifeguard with Waterfront training, ensuring the highest standards of safety are upheld at all times.
In addition to supervising and evaluating waterfront staff, your responsibilities include overseeing the general functioning and upkeep of the Lakeside Waterfront, and collaborating with the Mountainside Director for seamless coordination. Conducting emergency drills, developing program area lesson plans, and addressing maintenance concerns promptly are integral parts of your role, contributing to the overall success of the camp program. As a member of the senior staff team, your enthusiasm and dedication will inspire both campers and colleagues, leaving a lasting impact on the camp community while prioritizing the safety and well-being of all involved in waterfront activities.
Mountainside Director (Sailing & Windsurfing)
As the Mountainside Director at Fairview Lake YMCA Camps, your primary role is to lead and instruct campers in the exciting and exhilarating activities of sailing and windsurfing. With a strong emphasis on safety, skill development, and fostering a love for aquatic sports, you'll serve as a mentor and guide, empowering campers to explore and excel in these thrilling water activities. Essential to this role is your certification as an American Red Cross lifeguard with waterfront training, ensuring the highest standards of safety are upheld throughout all sailing and windsurfing sessions.
In addition to your instructional duties, you'll oversee the operation and upkeep of the Mountainside boathouse and docks, ensuring a welcoming and safe environment for campers to learn and explore sailing and windsurfing. Collaborating closely with the Waterfront Director, you'll coordinate activities and staff schedules to optimize camper experiences. Supervising and evaluating staff performance, addressing maintenance concerns promptly, and developing engaging program area lesson plans are key responsibilities that contribute to the overall success of the camp program. As a member of the senior staff team, your passion for aquatic sports and commitment to camper development will inspire both campers and colleagues, fostering a dynamic and supportive camp community.
Ropes Coordinator
As the Ropes Coordinator at Fairview Lake YMCA Camps, your primary responsibility is to oversee and facilitate all climbing and high ropes programming, providing campers with exhilarating and challenging experiences while prioritizing safety and skill development. Working closely with other members of the senior staff, the Program Director, and the Summer Camp Director, you'll collaborate to create a dynamic and inclusive environment that fosters personal growth and teamwork. Essential to this role is your expertise in ropes course safety and instruction, along with prior experience in climbing and belay systems. However, we are prepared to train the right candidate on our specific climbing and ropes elements, ensuring that all activities are conducted in accordance with industry standards and best practices.
In addition to leading ropes course activities, you'll be responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of all climbing and high ropes equipment, conducting regular inspections and addressing any safety concerns promptly. Collaborating with the Program Director, you'll develop engaging program area lesson plans and coordinate staff schedules to optimize camper experiences. As a key member of the senior staff team, your enthusiasm, leadership, and commitment to camper development will inspire both campers and colleagues, contributing to the overall success and vibrancy of the camp community.
