***This position is responsible for overseeing the Startup and Commissioning department in the NOVA/DC area for commercial HVAC system installations. The individual will participate in startup and commissioning activities while also growing, training, and managing a workforce of technicians. Some key elements include effectively communicating, managing, planning, organizing, documenting, following safety procedures, and mitigating risk. The individual must conduct all business and develop a team in accordance with the company's values of pride, professionalism, performance, trust, and loyalty. Reports directly to the Director of Northern Virginia.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Executes and manages the execution by others of all start up and commissioning responsibilities for commercial HVAC systems, including but limited to chillers, pumps, RTUs, CRAC units, AHUs, split systems, WSHPs, VRF, VAVs, etc.
  • Ensures that procedures are followed, and conditions are documented thoroughly to maintain accurate records for startup activities.
  • Identifies and resolves mechanical issues quickly and cost effectively.
  • Trains and grows workforce of Startup Technicians and Apprentices.
  • Coordinates and supervises the activities of Technicians and Apprentices to ensure effective operations and productivity.
  • Participates in internal coordination meetings and schedules Technicians and Apprentices to jobsites weekly; adjusts the schedule as demands change.
  • Supervises subcontractors such as balancers, Controls, and factory startup technicians.
  • Responsible annual reviews, career planning, and enforcement of the MEC2 HR policy handbook.
  • Maintains accurate daily timesheet records for hourly employees ( HH2 )
  • Communicates successfully with all levels of internal and external customers and company representatives.
  • Participates in the preplanning of construction operations to minimize delays to all projects and parties (subcontractors, material scheduling, employee job task scheduling, and materials handling to complete the project)
  • Prepares the construction equipment list needed for projects and monitors the assignment of equipment required to ensure maximum efficiency.
  • Responsible for reducing construction costs and controlling duration of startup and commissioning tasks.
  • Provides immediate and accurate communication to the Project Manager, noting any potential problems and suggested solutions.
  • Visits all jobs on a regular basis to observe and assess the productivity, quality, safety, scheduling procedures, and reports to the Supervisor, Salesperson and Project Managers as needed.
  • Oversees the preparation of accurate detailed written daily reports for each job.
  • Monitors job site safety and security in accordance with company policy and regulating authorities, including being responsible for all job site tool inventory and maintenance, securing the project, and all onsite materials.
  • Responsible for quality control to include verifying accuracy and condition of all materials; inspecting all work done by our field employees and subcontractors, taking appropriate corrective action when warranted, to maintain established company quality control standards; and notifying the Project Manager of deficiencies.
  • Coordinates with the Project Manager for all required inspections by appropriate authorities at the required stages

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for company assets used on job site
  • Understands and applies the company employee relations policies
  • Performs other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate
  • Hold's a valid driver's license
  • Reads drawings/specs to plan and perform necessary work
  • Inspects layouts
  • Performs takeoffs
  • Commissioning meetings
  • Provide additional training to team, as needed
  • Maintain knowledge of new/updated systems and equipment

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Must have complete knowledge of mechanical construction relating to commercial HVAC, HVAC-R, Controls, Equipment Startup & Commissioning and servicerelated repairs.
  • Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures
  • Journeyman's license a must. Masters is preferred.
  • Prior experience as a Superintendent or Project Manager in commercial mechanical construction industry.
  • Minimum 10+ years in commercial mechanical construction industry.
  • OSHA Safety Course Certification
  • CPR certification
  • CFC Universals
  • Minimum 10+ years of commercial HVAC refrigerant layout and piping experience at a Journeyman's level
  • Extensive HVAC equipment installation experience
