The German Railway is one of the most diverse employers in Germany.

Every year, we are looking for over 5,000 apprentices in 50 different professions who want to grow and improve with us.

We are currently seeking candidates for a 2-year apprenticeship as a Train Traffic Controller (m/f/d) for DB InfraGO AG at our location in Karlsruhe.

The vocational school is located in Ettlingen.

After completing your apprenticeship, you will have a 6-month practical assignment, followed by a 2-year further qualification as a Specialist for Railway Operations.

During your apprenticeship, you will work in one of the many control centers of the railway (called "signal boxes") and learn the following tasks: You will observe and control train traffic with technical support, such as screens or display boards, to ensure that trains take the correct route.

You will decide when trains should stop, go, or overtake. You will operate and adjust switches and light signals, thus influencing train traffic. Additionally, you will be in contact with train drivers via radio to inform them of any changes. Your goal is to ensure safe and smooth train traffic.

During your apprenticeship, you can expect to:

  • Familiarize yourself with working in a signal box and gain an overview of train operations
  • Learn and operate different signal box technologies
  • Understand the regulations and guidelines for the daily execution of train journeys
