Special Uses Resource Assistant
Position Details
Stewards Individual Placement Program (Stewards) provides individuals with service and career opportunities to strengthen communities and preserve our natural resources.
Stewards in partnership with Coronado National Forest is seeking a Resource Assistant who would serve as a special uses permit administrator on the forest and complete both recreation and land special uses.
The special uses program on the Coronado National Forest is centralized and run out of the supervisor's office in Tucson and is currently comprised of three full-time positions.
Due to the nature of this position, we are seeking highly organized individuals who exhibit strong communication skills, both written and oral, and are comfortable with administrative tasks in an office setting.
Field time in this position would vary based on need and time of year.The selected individual would be expected to be able to fluidly shift tasks and priorities and be comfortable working on multiple projects at any given time.
Position Responsibilities will include:
- Obtaining necessary training in Special Uses including introductory trainings, Cost Recovery and the Special Uses Database System (SUDS). Becoming familiar with programs such as Survey123 and ArcPro as it relates to making simple maps.
- Administers a variety of special use authorizations (permits, term permits, leases and/or easements) for various activities including outfitter guides, recreation events, recreation residences, research, and linear rightsofway.
- Keeps special uses authorization holders, applicants, and concerned public informed of Forest Service regulations, restrictions, timeframes, and resources management practices in the area.
- Processes special use authorization renewals, transfer of ownerships, terminations, revocations or suspensions as appropriate.
- Manages data appropriately within the SUDS database.
- Creates land use billings and cost recovery agreements as appropriate.
- Works collaboratively with resource specialists and NEPA coordinators to keep Authorized Officers informed.
- Conducts field inspections to ensure compliance with the terms and conditions of a special use authorization.
Minimum Requirements:
- Associate's Degree
- Must have a valid driver's license and be insurable by Conservation Legacy (over 21 years old or drivers license for at least three years).
- Must be 18 years or older.
- Must have High School Diploma/GED
- Must have or be able to obtain a postsecondary degree by end of service (Associate's or Higher)
Preferred Qualifications:
- ArcPro
- Certification or experience
Benefits:
- $1,000.00/month living allowance. (pre-tax, $250 per week)
