    Our Opportunity

    South Puget Sound Community College (SPSCC) seeks highly motivated and qualified candidates for the position of Director of Student Learning Assessment. The first possible start date for this position is July 15, 2024.

    The Director of Student Learning Outcomes and Assessment reports to the Dean of Academic Success Programs and works collaboratively with division deans and faculty to support quality student learning assessment processes. Through facilitative leadership, this position promotes a culture of inquiry and assessment by leading and supporting the development, implementation, validation, and reporting of student learning and success outcomes. The Director leads the faculty Student Learning Assessment Committee (SLAC) team in the design, implementation, and fulfillment of the comprehensive Educational Assessment Plan which the college uses to measure improvement in student learning and success and hold itself accountable to its goals. The Director also guides the Pathways efforts related to instructional alignment, curriculum review, and assuring students are learning. The Director works with college instructional, administrative, and student success units to plan, implement, and sustain equitable and inclusive efforts to continuously improve institutional effectiveness and equity through achievement of student learning and success outcomes at the course, program, and degree levels and in all modalities. Additionally, the Director organizes the work of the Center for Teaching and Online Learning to ensure timely completion of goals shared by all department members.

    What You'll Do

    Leadership and Planning:
    • Leads the Student Learning Assessment Committee (SLAC) team in the design, implementation, and improvement in student learning and success, close opportunity gaps, and hold itself accountable to its goals and NWCCU accreditation standards.
    • Actively supports and engages in South Puget Sound Community College's mission and core themes to assure equity, diversity, and inclusion for all students and specifically within the context of learning outcomes and outcomes assessment.
    • Facilitates the design of tools and strategies that enable faculty to effectively analyze and improve student learning assessment and success.
    • Creates, maintains, and promotes a repository of timely, evidence-based resources to promote continuous improvement of student learning.
    • Guides the design and implementation of an outcomes assessment process that provides meaningful assessment of instructional and student success outcomes by full time and part time faculty at the course, program, and degree levels for all instructional modalities (i.e., grounded, e-learning, simulations, communities of practice, blended methodologies, gamification, etc.).
    • Provides leadership for building and sustaining an instructional culture of inquiry for the continuous improvement of student learning, success, and experience.
    • Encourages innovation, learning through scholarly discourse, and the creation of a community of practice among educators whose focus is on excellence and equity in the learning, teaching, and assessment processes; and assists faculty in thinking strategically in translating assessment observations into learning and development solutions.
    • Consults with individuals and groups of faculty regarding assessment design;
    • Tracks national and state best practices in instructional assessment and keeps abreast of innovation and trends.
    • Systematically informs collaborative partners regarding information.
      • Coordinates the planning and organization of Center for Teaching and Online Learning (CTOL) daily work to fulfill identified outcomes and projects, including facilitating regular team meetings.
      • Plan and deliver programming for quarterly faculty-wide in-services, as necessary.
    Data Analysis and Consultation/Communication:
    • Consistent with processes defined by the Institutional Research and Institutional Effectiveness teams, interprets analytics related to student learning and success.
    • Meets, consults with, and makes key decisions with applicable staff and leadership regarding data collection and analyses; communicates status and results with faculty and staff.
    • In collaboration with faculty, reviews a variety of reports summarizing data; analyzes related reports and/or data; and makes recommendations based on findings.
    • Provides regular feedback to academic and Student Affairs leadership teams on various program review and evaluation initiatives related to assessment of student learning outcomes.
    • Designs reports that provide faculty with relevant data, strategies and tools for inquiry and improvement.
    • Establishes procedures and timelines for the use and analysis of reports such as program/discipline assessment.
    • Drives process thinking in the use of metrics throughout the learning process to ensure learning initiatives are linked to outcomes.
    Qualifications You Possess
    • A Master's Degree.
    • Competence and sensitivity in working at a college in which students, faculty, and staff are highly diverse regarding many facets of identity, including but not limited to gender, ethnicity, nationality, sexual orientation, income, level of educational attainment, and religion.
    • Demonstrable experience with assessment and instruction in an educational context.
