This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility, including the development and implementation of new programs.

Under the general direction of the Cultural Arts Director, the Program Specialist/Theater Technical Director has the responsibility for the technical operations of the Performing Arts Center, including lighting, sounds, set design and construction, and coordinating necessary maintenance.

The Theater Technical Director works with a great deal of independence and exercises independent judgment while performing a wide variety of duties.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:


  • Operate, maintain and safeguard the technical assets of the Theater, including supervising the use of lighting, sound, communications equipment, and the use and maintenance of stage facilities.
  • Determine the necessary technical support, including special needs necessary for events and performances presented at the facility in advance of production dates.
  • Design, set up, maintain and operate lighting and sound systems for the theater, dance, music, and other productions and projects. Assist guest designers and arts with technical matters.
  • Advise production managers, lighting and sound designers, on the technical specifications, costs and usage of technical equipment required for the individual show, and supervises the implementations of approved technical designs.
  • Supervise and assist with set and stage construction and management.
  • Assist in recruiting, training and assignment of volunteer or technical staff for individual shows.
  • Orients facility renters and visiting productions to safety, technical characteristics and other areas of facility operations; facilitates the use of the technical facilities by the resident company and others engaged by or renting the facility.
  • Monitor the condition of equipment including lighting, sound, and rigging equipment; arrange for repair and replacement within budget; perform preventive maintenance on equipment.
  • Assists with the preparation and control of production budgets; maintain inventory and orders specialized supplies.
  • Attend technical week rehearsals in order to supervise and assist in the technical aspects of the show.
  • Make recommendations to the Cultural Arts Director regarding capital purchases of technical equipment.
  • Attend and participate in open houses, program activities, staff meetings and trainings as required.
  • Perform other jobrelated duties as requested and necessary.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Bachelor degree in Theater, Theater Management or Technical Theater or equivalent experience.
  • Previous knowledge of Rosen Performing Arts Center sound/lighting systems preferred.
  • Strong teamplayer abilities.
  • Able to work independently with mínimal supervision.
