Summary:

Under the general supervision of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory Manager.

Supervises activities and training of Cardiovascular Technologist and Technicians with responsibility for all technical work and performance as related to clinical educational and research activities within the department.

According to precise procedures prepares operates and maintains technical equipment function and service used for patient monitoring and acquisition of hemodynamic biomedical and digital imaging data derived from cardiovascular procedures.

Assures reliable acquisition of data performs various tests and calculations. Investigates and resolves problems regarding equipment malfunction and assures quality control and assurance of all technical procedures. Ensures daily monitoring ordering and maintenance of medical supplies and inventory.


Responsibilities:


Participates in the development and design of new technical procedures modifications of existing procedures and the maintenance of quality control and quality assurance for all equipment and technical procedures involved in operation of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory.

Evaluates equipment malfunctions and makes adjustments and repairs or contacts service representatives as appropriate. May recommend rescheduling of cardiovascular procedures when necessary due to equipment malfunctions.


Supervises subordinate group of Cardiovascular Technologist/technicians including preparation of daily work/break/lunch and vacation schedules performance appraisals wage and salary actions counseling and disciplinary action when necessary.

Oversees work to assure quality of all technical procedures performed and provides technical assistance as necessary. Interviews recommends selection and trains new technologists. May perform all duties of technologist as required including on-call assignments. In absence of Manager when requested may assume additional responsibilities associated with that position.

Sets up activities and checks all monitoring recording and x-ray equipment necessary for diagnostic cardiovascular procedures.

Maintains and operates acquisition monitoring and recording equipment including:
a.) Computer for recording and storage of hemodynamic data cardiac outputs procedure logs and inventory.

c.) Blood apparatus including calculating ACTs and oxygen saturation.

d.) Acquisition and back up of digital storage.

Sets up and operates fluoroscopy x-ray and digital imaging equipment maintaining knowledge and competency for data acquired.


During procedures notifies physician of any problems with equipment patient such as change in pressure heart rate or blood analysis.

May prep patients arm or groin before procedure. May perform assigned duties in Cath Lab Holding Unit and supervise technologists to do same. Transports patient from stretcher to Cath lab and when necessary from lab to patient care unit or OR. May transport discharged outpatients via wheelchair.

Cleans and prepares supplies for sterilization. Thoroughly cleans lab in preparation for back to back procedures when necessary.


Maintains and provides reports of technical activities such as equipment service contracts purchase orders merchandise returns repairs quality control and assurance programs.


Other information:


BASIC KNOWLEDGE:

College level of education in biological sciences allied health program biomedical engineering or the equivalent. Licensed Radiologic Technologist or RCIS (Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist) certification. Basic Life Support (BLS)/Advanced Cardiac Life support certification (ACLS.)


Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care patients with consideration of aging processes human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.


EXPERIENCE:


One to two years scrub experience for coronary diagnostic and interventional procedures and in peripheral vascular diagnostic and interventional procedures.

Two years previous experience in cardiac catheterization laboratory or similar environments. Prior supervisory and management experience. Analytical ability to assess reliability of equipment evaluates changes in patients condition and alert physician when necessary. Numerical ability to perform calculations on acquired data. Technical ability to set up operate balance calibrate and repair equipment. Verbal skills to comprehend technical and medical terminology and concepts. Visual ability to monitor equipment gauges. Ability to work under pressure during complex procedures and to respond to emergencies. Interpersonal skills to work as part of a team. Supervisory ability to interview select train evaluate discipline and provide technical direction to subordinates as necessary.


WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Exposure to low level radiation from x-ray equipment and infection from blood samples. Hazards of electrical shock from high voltage cables but hazards are minimized with
