POSITION:
Ophthalmic Technician/Scribe


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:


  • High school diploma, some college
  • Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA), preferred
  • Working knowledge of NextGen, preferred

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work may require prolonged standing, walking, some bending, stooping and stretching. Occasionally lifting items greater than 50 pounds. Requires excellent communication skills and a keen understanding of patients with sensory impairment. Must be able to express a caring attitude while performing the tasks required with accuracy and efficiency. Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to perform necessary testing and reporting of findings.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

(include, but are not limited to the following)

  • Preforms complete, efficient and accurate patient work up, including, but not limited to taking an ocular and systemic history and accurately record visual acuity. Is able to perform lensometry, refractometry, applanation tonometry, basic muscle balance testing, assess pupils, assess the anterior chamber, confrontation visual fields, etc.
  • Performs testing required by type of exam scheduled, patient complaint and history.
  • Acts as scribe while physician examines patient entering data into electronic medical records and oversees patient flow.
  • Performing diagnostic tests, such as OCT, OCT-A, Fluorescein Angiography, Fundus Photography, Bscan and Ascan Ultrasonography, OPD, Pentacam, etc.; taking anatomical and functional ocular measurements of the eye and surrounding tissue, and testing ocular functions; perform refractions and retinoscopy and other testing as directed by physician
  • Administer topical ophthalmic or oral medications under the direction of the physician.
  • Assists with inoffice procedures ensuring proper informed consent is obtained, sets up and cleans up from procedures.
  • Perform advanced ophthalmic procedures.
  • Assists in training of other ophthalmic assistants.
  • Assists with patient education.
  • Maintains cleanliness and orderliness of exam rooms during the work day.
  • Complies with all practice procedures and protocols. Complies with all State and Federal regulations. Understands and accepts responsibility to report potential or suspected errors to supervisor or Compliance Officer.
  • Maintains positive attitude consisting of cooperation, selfmotivation, courtesy, and professionalism.

$ $20.00 per hour
