Primary Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Responsible for project management, documentation and support of all campus data cabling infrastructure and systems.
  • Conduct short network training sessions for campus end users.
  • Provides general supervision to Network Analyst I, II and parttime personnel within Network Services.
  • Provides supervision and support of all local and wide area networks in operation or under development by Network Services campus wide.
  • Tracks the network's performance, gauging the network's response time and traffic loads, to glean historical and trend information for planning and implements tuning measures to optimize utilization and availability of system resources.
  • Assists and supervises recovery from hardware, software and cabling failures and provides technical analysis in problem determination and resolution.
  • Develops and implements failure prevention techniques.
  • Traces problems throughout the network, performing diagnostics and correcting errors.
  • Monitor and manage network security.
  • Evaluate, recommend, and implement solutions as needed.
  • On call 24 hours a day to resolve network operations that affect the usability of the campuswide network.
  • Evaluates vendor proposals for providing maintenance agreements for support of campus networks.
  • Advises Manager of Network Services on training needs of users and coordinates with End User Computing on design, scheduling and presentation of training classes to those who require them.
  • Trains users and prepare training materials for network use.
  • Participates in professional activities or seminars to keep abreast of stateoftheart advances in network systems and operation.
  • May assume any of the functions of the Network Analysts I and II.
  • Responsible for Network Services in the absence of the Manager and Network Analyst IV.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:


  • Education
  • AS or AA degree in Computing in Computing Information Systems or related field.
  • BS degree in Computer Science preferred.
  • Experience
  • Expert knowledge of network software and hardware.
  • Experience
may be substituted for education required.

  • Data communications knowledge, knowledge of concentrators, routers, bridges, TCP/IP and UNIX and Linux preferred.
  • Knowledge of Windows Active Directory, VMware and network security for various operating systems preferred.

Working Conditions:


  • IBM professional use of computer systems with associated operating systems.
  • Windows, Novell, Linux, and UNIX based file servers, bridges, concentrators, network diagnostic tools, and IPSec Systems.
  • Pleasant office, varied working hours at odd times.
  • Must be able to use a telephone and a microcomputer/terminal.
  • This position requires a background check and drug screen.

Hiring Range:

Classified 13 Salary Factor 120/Based on minimum qualifications pay starts at 69,680.

Competitive starting pay is dependent on education and experience.
