Primary Responsibilities:


The Communications & Advocacy Associate will:

Directly support and implement Advance CTE's federal advocacy strategy:

  • Compile and compose weekly federal policy updates.
  • Draft resources to support Advance CTE members in understanding and implementing federal policy connected to CTE, including but not limited to talking points, fact sheets, blog posts, and briefs.
  • Draft resources to support Advance CTE members in participating in advocacy to maximize CTE's impact in federal policy, including but not limited to talking points, fact sheets, slide decks, blog posts, data visuals, etc.
  • Draft resources to effectively communicate Advance CTE's position on federal policy proposals, including but not limited to press releases, press statements, letters to policymakers, public comments on regulatory notices of proposed rulemaking, and appropriations requests;
  • Engage Advance CTE members to surface needs, perspectives and desired outcomes of federal policy to support organizational advocacy and communications efforts;
  • Collect and compile data and information related to the impact of CTE for state and national education, workforce, and economic systems and users
  • Organize logistics and support staff in event planning to connect with members and policymaking partners on CTE's role and impact in federal policymaking

Directly support and implement Advance CTE's communications strategy:

  • Create content for Advance CTE's digital media accounts related to federal policy and initiatives connected to federal policy
  • Serve as communications liaison to Advance CTE staff and vendor in supporting layout and promotion of public releases and publications, as needed;
  • Serve as communications liaison to Advance CTE staff and vendors in executing short and longterm promotion and storytelling of organizational initiatives connected to federal policy
  • Engage with members of the media to leverage storytelling as a means to advance federal policy priorities.

Other:


  • Develop an ongoing understanding of CTE and the role of Advance CTE/The Center to Advance CTE in serving the CTE community.
  • Occasionally travel, staying within established spending guidelines, and be requested to work flexible hours in response to member and media requests; as well as attend conferences and Board meetings in the early morning hours or late evenings.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Skills:


Required

  • Advance CTE values both education and work experiences that demonstrate the ability to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of this position and estimates that a minimum of two to four years of related experience is necessary to carry out the duties of this position.   • Direct experience developing written content for a variety of platforms and for a variety of audiences in support of wider organizational goals
  • Experience developing or supporting a communications strategy for a project or initiative
  • Excellent English language oral and written communication skills, proficiency in spelling, punctuation, citations, grammar and content and direct experience writing and/or editing blogs, newsletters and social media posts
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Familiarity with the federal policymaking process
  • Ability to think critically and use good problemsolving judgment, including the handling of confidential and sensitive information with discretion
  • Ability to take complex ideas and present them in a style that is both creative, digestible for a layperson's understanding, and in alignment with Advance CTE's brand
  • Ability to work independently, accurately and develop and manage deadlines and simultaneously manage multiple projects/tasks
