Essential Functions and Job Responsibilities:


  • Assists with preparation, staining and coverslipping of cytology specimens when Laboratory Assistant is off
  • Assists in Cytology Aspiration procedures that are scheduled with the section.
  • Screens gynecological and nongynecological cases on a daily basis and in a timely manner. 36 hrs/GYN and 24hrs/NGYN from the time received in the laboratory.
  • Sign out cases with the Pathologist on (according to schedule).
  • Labels and/or verify all Cytology stained slides, compares name, number of slides, clinical information, and gross description against the Cytology requisitions and/or computer screen.
  • Change and clean equipment and solutions in the Cytology Aspiration procedure tray, keep Cytology Aspiration procedure supplies in tray stocked.
  • Change/rotate GYN and NGYN staining set up as needed.0
  • Maintains all records as per regulatory agencies requirements and WESTMED.
  • Maintains CME log.
  • Participates in any other departmental activities as directed by the Laboratory Director and/or Chief Cytotechnologist.

Required Qualifications:


  • Bachelor of Science with ASCP Registry and/or Certified Cytology School Degree.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience screening gynecological, nongynecological specimens and fine needle aspirations.
  • Familiar with Bethesda system for Cytology reporting.
  • ThinPrep Certification, experience interpreting special stains and immunohistochemistry preferred.
  • Broad knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Ability to deal with confidential information with the utmost discretion. Interpersonal skill necessary to deal courteously and effectively with administration, peers and the public.
  • Sufficient technical ability to be able to troubleshoot independently and knowledge to know when to ask for assistance.

Pay Range $53/hr to $57/hr_

The provided compensation range is based on industry standards and salary determinations will be made based on numerous factors including but not limited to years of experience and location of position._
