Duties:


As an International Travel Specialist within the Office of International Programs, some of your specific duties will include:

  • Provides oversight for all international travel actions including review of travel requests (DI-11 75's).
  • Serves as focal point coordinating emergency travel requests, dealing directly with questions of immediate urgency.
  • Furnishes guidance and direction to OIP staff as well as all USGS employees worldwide, with direct responsibility for ensuring that work is completed accurately, and deadlines are met as required.
  • Serves as a Bureau Passport Agent.
  • Oversees and maintains accuracy of travel databases and prepares special reports relating to travel as requested.
  • Provides information on passport and visa questions, training requirements, cable inquiries, and medical clearances.
  • Responsible for researching, analyzing, drafting, and formulating guidelines ensuring that the text conforms to the criteria as mandated by State Department regulations.
  • Serves as liaison between OIP and USGS Regions, Science Centers, and field offices for all inquiries, unresolved issues, and problems relating to international travel.
  • Acts as the USGS expert on questions/concerns. relating to deadlines, procedures, and interpretation of regulations.
  • Initiates schedule for quarterly meeting travel lists and coordinates list on behalf of Bureau.
  • Prepares due dates (schedule for collection of information), and compiles data for review of Director's Office and prepares the "more than 7" memorandums requiring Department approval.

Qualifications:


For GS-09:

Applicants must meet one of the following to qualify for the GS-9 level:

One year of specialized experience in or directly related to this position that equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position.

To be creditable, the required specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-07 level in the Federal service.


Examples of GS-7 level work include assisting with collecting and consolidating administrative data; providing travel support, identifying any significant trends; reviewing administrative guidelines and procedures to determine legal and ethics compliance; providing assistance to employees relating to personnel issues; and reviewing contract proposals to ensure adherence to guidelines and policy.


OR applicants may substitute successful completion of 2 years of progressively higher level, directly related, graduate education or master's or equivalent graduate degree (such as an LL.B or J.D). (36 semester hours, 54 quarter hours, or the equivalent).


OR a combination of appropriate specialized experience (as described above) and graduate education (as described above) that is beyond the first year of progressive graduate study to meet the qualification requirements.
