    Description


    The Accounting Manager works with a high degree of independence in performing accounting and financial activities for the organization and related entities.

    Successful performance of the work requires good knowledge of accounting practices and procedures, fund accounting and fiscal management. Responsibilities include direct contact with Department Managers and 3 rd


    party vendors regarding monthly expenditure accounts, automated check request and expense reimbursement procedures and processes, accounts payable reporting system, and miscellaneous billings.

    This position must exercise discretion and judgment as the first point of scrutiny of expenditures being incurred by offices throughout the greater organization.

    Maintaining confidentiality and the prudent regard and handling of sensitive information, material and conversation is required of this position. This role reports directly to the Director of Financial Services.

    KNOWLEDGE,


    SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
    Understanding of accounting principles.


    Fund accounting practices and principles; auditing practices and principles; computer applications related to the work; applicable laws, codes and regulations.


    Techniques for dealing with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds, in person and over the phone.

    General experience in an office setting necessary.

    Proficiency with database and Microsoft Office applications (particularly Word and Excel), Outlook, Navision Accounting Software (a plus)

    Attention to detail a must.

    Minimum accurate typing speed of 40 wpm.


    Excellent phone manner and interpersonal skills, composition and letter writing; attention to detail; ability to work with minimal supervision; multi-tasking and organizational skills; and ability to prioritize tasks.


    REQUIREMENTS
    Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance required.

    Experience in Accounts Payable.


    Ability to understand accounting theory and concepts to apply to the organization's operations in determining best practices and procedures, especially in the area of Accounts Payable.
