Position Summary:


  • The Process Design Manager reports to the Engineering Director and works interactively with the Site Capital Execution Leaders, Operations Leadership, HS&E, and plant teams to manage the frontend capital process from idea through scoping. The Process Design Manager leads a team of process engineers responsible for the endtoend process design deliverables and progression management of capital projects for all categories (RM, HSE, CS, EX). This role will function as a single point of contact for process engineering resourcing and will be tasked both with forming outside relationships with contract engineering organizations and supporting development of the pipeline of internal process engineering expertise.

Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Lead the management processes for progression of engineering Front End and Process Design Packages for the AdvanSix nylon polymer, caprolactam, chemical intermediates, and fertilizer products businesses, consisting of:
  • Process Description and key technology and risk summary
  • Proper scaling up of laboratory data to commercial design
  • Process Simulations
  • Heat and Material Balance and Process Flow Diagrams
  • Piping & Instrument Diagrams
  • Process Equipment Specifications
  • Ensure that the process design inputs are appropriately prioritized and managed to achieve a rolling capital planning horizon, supporting endtoend capital project execution during all phases of projects
  • Manage frontend engineering budgets, schedules, and resourcing to ensure key milestone dates are met and escalations are completed on a timely manner
  • Work with site level and functional process engineering and capital execution teams to identify emerging schedule risks, and maintain portfolio management view of all capital projects active in the frontend engineering process
  • Lead advancement of improved ideation processes across the AdvanSix sites, ensuring a robust and rigorous evaluation regimen leading into the frontend engineering phase, and drive consistency in methodology site to site
  • Responsible for cross site coordination and resourcing to prioritize execution on capital projects as required. This includes developing and maintaining relationships with third party engineering contractors to support fluid deployment of outside process engineering resources.
  • Work with site and functional teams to identify and implement longer term process improvement efforts with the overall goal being to reduce rework, and construction expense, rooted in design changes made after AR approval
  • Manage, improve, and maintain frontend process and procedures to improve efficiency and rigor around the progression of all capital processes.
  • Ensure that AdvanSix standards, procedures, and mission are met in the improvements to the frontend development process.
  • Understand and develop coordinated program to identify skill gaps and strengthen development of early career engineering talent pipeline in required process engineering expertise fields.
  • Actively promote a culture of safety, learning, and engineering excellence.

Basic Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Chemical or Mechanical preferred.
  • Process design and operational experience in chemical, polymer / resin processing industries required.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in production, process and/or manufacturing engineering within the chemical, petroleum, or polymer industrial manufacturing environments.
  • 23 years of experience in engineering or manufacturing leadership preferred.
  • Experience with Process Safety Management preferred.
