- Work with agency personnel and external providers to coordinate the delivery of medical and psychiatric services for BGH clients.
- Conduct initial health screenings of clients at intake when possible. Complete all screenings within 48 hours of admission.
- Conduct follow-up assessments of clients when necessary, and recommend appropriate care, treatment and/or services.
- Assist with referrals to, and scheduling of, medical/psychiatric appointments as necessary.
- Participate in treatment teams, staff meetings and other meetings as appropriate.
- Provide in-service training for agency personnel related to medical care of clients, including training on medication administration.
- Administer and read PPD TB tests.
- Perform routine medical procedures as directed by physicians.
- Provide acute medical care to clients when it is appropriate to do so.
- Facilitate all components of med training for all staff.
- Work with pharmacy and staff members to coordinate ordering, delivery and distribution (to each program) of medications.
- Ensure that medications are entered correctly in the Medication Administration Records (MARs) when they arrive from the pharmacy.
- Enter or "set up" medications
- Record changes and discontinuate MARs when those medications are not listed on the pre-printed MARs from the to medications in the clients' MARs when they occur.
- For all campus-based programs, check medication counts and MARs to assess for any areas of concern. These checks should be performed at least once per week.
- Coordinate appropriate tests and lab work for clients.
- Document all relevant activities in clients' medical files.
- Working with providers, Medicaid, Managed Care Organizations (MCOs) and private insurance companies to resolve issues affecting coverage, service delivery and/or payment.
- Provide on-call support and consultation to agency staff members regarding medical concerns.
- Ensure that surplus medications are disposed of in a timely and safe manner, and that disposals are documented.

Job DescriptionCore Schedule: 40 Hours per Week (36 scheduled hours + 4 hours reserved for on-call duties).Role Summary: Provides routine and emergency medical care for youth served by Boys and Girls Haven (BGH). Supervise delivery of medical services, train agency staff and provide medical consultation as necessary. Responsibilities will be accomplished under the direction of the Director of Programs and Operations and within the framework of the purposes, policies and procedures of BGH.
Essential Functions:

Qualifications:
Education – Registered Nurse with active license in the state of Kentucky.
Experience/Credentials –
Substantial experience working with children and adolescents, preferably in child welfare programs.
Psychiatric experience is preferred. This experience includes substantial knowledge of psychotropic medications as well as experience implementing best practices related to psychiatric care (both inpatient and outpatient).
Experience addressing claim/payment issues with Medicaid, Managed Care Organizations (MCOs) and/or private insurance companies is preferred.
Demonstrated personal knowledge, skills and qualifications consistent with professional and Kentucky regulations.
Excellent verbal and written communication and organizational skills, including proficiency with appropriate computer software/hardware (i.e., Windows, Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Power Point, Word and other relevant software/hardware).
Other - Interact professionally with BGH employees, clients, visitors, government agencies and the general public. Maintain confidentiality of all client information. Must be at least 21 years of age and legally able to work in U.S. Valid driver's license and insurability by BGH's insurance carrier required if expected to transport clients and/or use company vehicles. Successful completion of all background screenings and pre-employment drug screen. Successful negative, post-contingent offer and annual TB screenings.
Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to: stand, walk and sit; use hands to manually manipulate, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk and hear; taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Ability to read, write and converse in English.
Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to a standard medical and/or administrative office environment. S/he will come into contact with BGH clients, staff members, Board members, volunteers and other members of the community. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
