About the Position

  • Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Building Engineer position will assist with all aspects of facility maintenance, upkeep, and operations of the facility along with daily event and nonevent maintenance of Smart Financial Centre. This position will work in close conjunction with the Operations Manager & Director of Operations to provide effective and efficient support for a host of fulltime and parttime staff for Operations and Maintenance procedures.
  • As part of duties, the Building Engineer will be responsible for coordination of all maintenance and repair to provide the best upkeep of Smart Financial Centre. The job duties require support of all event operations and nonevent operations. Duties will revolve around all aspects of facility operations related to areas of maintaining and operating a multipurpose venue during nonevent and event periods.

Qualifications

  • Must have the ability and willingness to work long days, evenings and weekends and holidays.
  • Two to three years' experience in the entertainment industry or related field.
  • Must have good organizational skills.
  • Working knowledge of facility setups for events.
  • Plan and perform daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly maintenance and project work for Operations staff.
  • Communicate effectively to ensure building remains in a presentable and safe state for clients and guests.
  • Clearly communicate with staff (Full and Parttime) to assure a high morale and positive work environment.
  • Develop and implement efficiencies and improvements on an ongoing basis for the Operations department.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word, a must.
  • Ability to lift at least 20lbs as needed.
  • Perform other duties as needed.

Experience and Skills

  • Energy/Building Automation Systems Management experience.
  • Understanding of code compliance.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office products, Excel, Word, & PowerPoint.
  • Electrical power distribution understanding.
  • Mechanical operations and ability to develop new ideas for operations.
  • Construction documentation and ability to read and understand drawings.
  • 3 years' experience in the entertainment (arena, stadium or theater) industry or related field.

Job Duties

  • Working with the Operations Manager to assist with event loadins.
  • Working with the conversion crew during events when not working loadins. Improve the maintenance operational systems, processes, and policies in support of organizations mission
- specifically, support better maintenance reporting, information received and repair planning.

  • Maintaining and performing routine maintenance on the building HVAC equipment to keep climate control in the facility functioning properly.
  • Setup, create facility equipment details, modify, and coordinate the maintenance management program (Impak) work orders with staff, vendors, and contractors.
  • Performing routine building maintenance. For example, but not limited to, air quality, plumbing, basic electricity, and lighting.
  • Understand and utilize all aspects of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems within the facility.
  • Fixing any potential safety hazards to avoid injuries.
  • Painting throughout the building where needed. For example, but not limited to, walls, ceilings, handrails, and the stage.
  • Maintains Operation Staff's adherence to safety standards.
  • Work with vendors to supply all goods and services to maintain budgetoriented facility.
  • Ability to make repairs to all systems as needed in an event facility to maintain operational readiness.
  • Work closely with Production to manage and support event production needs.
  • Coordination and policing of contractors to ensure that all maintenance work completed is satisfactory while following up on any deficiencies.
  • Work closely with Operations Manager to ensure operations and processes are adhered to maintaining an exceptionally safe and customer friendly environment.
  • Ability to make decisions under pressure.
